    More questions about scopes

    Hello,

I would like a 3x or 4x scope with a red dot sight on top. I want a short scope like an ACOG, this is for an AR15. I see things like this https://www.opticsplanet.com/ncstar-...iflescope.html that look like what I want but the low price makes me hesitant. Is there something like this that does not cost $4,000 or even $500? Dare I ask, under $300?

Edit: Let me add two more to the list. Are these junk?

They don't have a red dot but one of them has an iron sight of sorts, and the other is 2.5x so it might be ok. It is not like I am running around in a war zone fighting for my life.

Thanks very much for any advice or recommendations.

Shucks. I'm not gonna get away with cheaping out I guess.

Is it possible to mount a red dot sight to a primary arms prism scope?

since newer PA sights come with a top rail, i cannot see why not.

huh... that looks like just what the doctor ordered!

I think a PA 2.5x or 3x with a red dot on top will be perfect for my AR15

you might also consider a single 1-6x optic like this one.

Thanks, I like that. I wonder how it compares to a red dot for rapid target acquisition. Not that it matters much, for me, at this time. I'm not doing competitions or anything.

I setup an Burris AR536 like that for a minute. I had a free Fast Fire III and was waiting for a Glock MOS slide, so I just mounted it to see what it looked like. I didn't like it, but that's a matching combo... I think they even sell those two together to accomplish that.

Put whatever you want on it. It is just an AR Mattel toy. Use what makes you happy.

That's true, for me and my use, it is just a toy. For home defense, I have handguns at the ready. The AR is locked up, and I take it out for playing in the desert.

I already have a red dot on the AR, I will order a PA prism (I think) and see how my red dot mounts on top. If it works well I won't need to order a new sight.

May I ask why you didn't like it? I know it would be a few inches above the muzzle, so I am not sure if I would sight it dead on or sight it so the point of impact was 2 or 3 inches (or whatever the distance the sight was from the muzzle) below the reticule center.

Yup, seemed gimmicky tacticool and too high. Seemed like $200 sitting on top of a perfectly good illuminated etched 5x optic that would still work if the electronics failed or battery died. Also, the FF3 was earmarked for a Glock... but when the Glock got a RMR, the FF3 went into a box, not back on top of the AR536. Now it is on a shotgun or Ruger MKII IIRC. A better place for it IMHO.

I do have four 1-6 scopes. I also like 1x red red dots... have MRO, Aimpoint PRO, Spark AR, etc...
