    Noob question: mounting/unmounting sight

    Hi folks,
I have an EOTech XPS2-2 (no quick release base) on my PCC.
I think I'd like to get a low-powered scope for shooting 50/100yd targets at the range. If i remove the EOTech and put on the scope, will I have to re-sight them every time I swap?
    Thanks

Don't hold me do it, but most likely you will. But I would think it would be pretty close there shouldn't be much fine tuning.

      Short answer: Yes
      Why: You should verify.

      Long answer:
Will you have to make adjustments? Perhaps. Probably. The good mounts are generally pretty good about holding zero. The cheaper ones, not as much. You didn't say which mounts you will be using.

      The really long answer:
How precise is your expectation? What range are you zeroing at? What mounts are you using. Will you use the same mount for both optics? (btw, if the answer is yes then for sure do a sight in each swap.) A 9mm pcc with an eotech for range fun will probably be pretty much ok just throwing it on. Will is still hit that steel plate at 50 yards... yeah probably.

Considering many PCC's are used to just spit out whatever cheap ammo you happen to have at the time, fast, and fun with very little demand for small groups then with any decent mount you'll probably be fine when you slap it back on.

Also, I should address the fact that either a xps or a LPVO is fine to engage targets at 50 or 100 or less, (or frankly more yards.) So, why even switch out? Whichever one you like better just keep it on there and go out and have fun.

Finally. See the short answer and the why.

Alot better above, but yes it will be close.. and for 50-100 yards you should look at getting a magnifier... They work suprisingly well.

          ^that's a good option

in short, depends on the rails and mounts.
good quality rails and the right mounts can return to zero surprisingly well.

even quality QD mounts can be very good at returning to zero.
if i wanted to easily switch between 2 optics i would consider QD for both.

Thanks for the discussion everyone! And thanks to -aK- for the advice.
I have the EOTech mounted directly to the rail of the HK USC.

Unfortunately, the tall rail height prevents me from using some nice quick-disconnect mounts.

As per SDCarpenter, I actually wanted to get an EOTech G33 magnifier but because the rail height, the quick-release mount of the EXPS2 and G33 was too high.

I really like the EOTech, but after going to the range a couple times I've found I just feel like I can't actually see the target (at 50yd). Even with the splatterburst targets I've been using, I feel like I'm not getting much feedback on where my shots just landed (I think I am managing to get 7/10 shots onto the 12x18 target). I could get a spotting scope, I suppose, but I think a 2-3x optic might be better for me.

Anyways, I guess you're right - I should just try out a low power optic and see which one is more fun, since ultimately that's what I'm going for.

You should always verify, but many quality quick detach mount - e.g. Bobro - have the ability to return to zero consistently.
