I have the Gen 1 PST 6-24 x 50 MOA on my savage 10 fcp-k in 223 rem. Love it. Fine enough to see a quarter at 300 yds, and regularly take squeaks at distances greater than 200 yards. FFP so no mental math with the ranging at any magnification.

Buy once cry once. People go cheap on optics and usually regret it pretty quick.
I'd get an Athlon before I got an SWFA. (Nothing wrong with SWFA, but I think you'll regret it.)

I was out in the desert last weekend really enjoying my SWFA 10x. Great for long range. Mounted to my 20" Grendel AR I had no problem putting the little 0.10 MOA center dot in the middle of an 18" square plate set at 1000 yds out. At that range the dot covered only about 1" or so of the plate's surface at that distance? It was surprisingly easy to shift the dot around on the plate to correct for the slight breeze blowing.

Straight 10x isn't really an all-around scope though. However I love the SWFA's simplicity. After chrono'ing my Hornady Black ammo and zeroing the rifle I punched the numbers into my iPhone ballistic app. The app said that for 1000 yds, I need to go up 38.4 MOA. I dialed up the turret by that amount and took a shot. Missed that plate by only 5-8 ft! High and right. Made a slight correction with the turrets and took another shot. Hit the plate dead center. Yep, the SWFA scopes have a place on my guns. (I also own one of their 3-9x SS with the better glass.)

I should add, my 10x is the MOA-Quad reticle type. Very nice setup for precise work at longer distances, or on paper targets at a range. Not so great for quick acquisition or low-light though. Mine is Rear-focus, which might make the scope more clear/bright. Can't say for sure about that, but that's the general rule. And to help focusing I put a Vortex Switch View cat-tail on the dial. Really helps.

Forgot to "vote". I guess if you're willing to spend close to a grand for the scope, I say get the Vortex. A variable is a more versatile. Though I don't know if you need all that magnification for just out to 1000 yds. Might be fun to have it anyway though.

Just know that the Vortex is a bigger and much heavier scope than the SWFA. Something to consider.

Thanks. I hear great things on the swfa. I was going to get the side focus but 100 was hard to swallow for that. I ended up getting neither for black froday

                There will be other sales.

I originally got the rear focus model for its supposed clarity and reliability benefits, and cheaper price. Then found right away that it's hard to turn that ring when in a prone shooting position. Just an awkward angle for the wrist. I ended up buying the Vortex Switch View (SV-5) that I mentioned for $60. So I guess that makes mine a $360 scope I guess.

The SV-5 fits the 10x SS focus ring like it was made for it. Makes the focusing process a breeze.

I'll be the Vortex Viper is a very nice scope too. I have a Gen 1 Viper 1-4x. Very nice scope for closer range shooting. Nice glass.

FWIW, the SWFA sale on through tomorrow. 11/30. The rear focus 10x is $259.

Their 3-9x (HD glass but no parallax focus) is also on sale as well:

So I ordered a rear focus yesterday mil mil.

But the day before Black Friday their site showed the side focus for the rear focus price of 259. I emailed them that day and got no response.

Today I got a call and said they could honor the price of the side focus for the rear focus price. So glad they honors their price mistake. So far very good service from them even though it was slow.

That's great that you got it at that price. $259 was the sale price on the rear focus scope.

The Mil-Mil scope should serve you well. Get yourself a Mildot Master and you'll be in business. FWIW, with my 10x I was using a standard Larue 104 mount, no fwd MOA tilt, on my 20" Grendel upper and I was having no trouble reaching out to 1000 yds

Just curious, did you get their Mil-Quad reticle, or a standard Mil-dot?

Only mil quad was on sale. I have a 20moa base so that should also help

I suppose it won't hurt, with the scope being 30mm. If I had to choose between those two Mil scopes I guess I would choose the Mil-Quad.

I mentioned the mount because my friend found out that his 1" scope (Nikon maybe) using a 20 MOA mount on his AR wasn't able to hit a bullseye at 100yds; ran out "up" adjustment. But I think the SWFA has a bit more adjustment available than a 1".
