I'm looking for a scope that will sit on a Howa 1500 to be used primarily for shooting varmints. Budget is between $150 and 400, though I'd prefer tostay closer to the lower end of the range. Ideally at least 16 power at the upper end and either MOA reticle or uncapped turrets or both. Low light performance is not a big deal for my application but durability is.
My other varmint rifle has a Vortex HS LR 4-16x44 scope that has two drawbacks: first, the elevation turret adjusts in 1/2 MOA increments and that's a bit coarse for distance. Second, it has the BDC reticle and while I understand how to use it, I'm thinking an MOA reticle would be easier in a fast-shooting situation.
I've looked through the Vortex Diamondback 4-16x44 FFP tactical scope. The glass is clear and it has the Christmas tree-style reticle. Also read some reviews of the Sightmark Triple Duty 4-16X44 and more recent reviews seem to be more favorable than earlier reviews. Any thoughts on these two would be welcome. Other alternatives that fit budget and requirements would also be welcome.
