Vortex strike eagle loses focus at max mag

    I have a strike eagle 1-8
I can get a sharp focus that holds from 1x up to about 6x ish.. beyond that it goes out of focus to really blurry at the full 8x. Cannot correct with the focusing ring. The eyebox got pretty small at 8x so not a whole lot i could do with my eye. Being sfp this pretty much renders the reticle marks useless.

I want to see if theres something i can do before i give vortex a call

Call Vortex & warranty it. You bought it because of their excellent warranty, so why the reluctance to use it?

Yeah, no reluctance to use a warranty. But I'm a newb so just wondering if it's me and not the scope

Have you compared with other SE 1 - 8’s ?

          No. No access to others.
I spoke to them on the phone today and got a few things to try. They did confirm that is def not supposed to do that tho.

Maxing out budget scopes tends to lead to fuzzy images. Maybe yours is out of the ordinary but in my experience the budget scopes are budget for a reason. I say this as someone who runs vortex almost exclusively.

That thought did occur to me. But this isnt a budget quality difference
its tough to explain without actually showing you but the picture past 6x is truly unusable. Which in this particular case precludes even buying this scope since vortex already has a 1-6 that works

Box it up and ship it out for warranty inspection/repair. You would expect "mirage" to affect the target view on long distance and high magnification, but not on 8X.
