Scope and mount for PTR 91 GI

    Hey guys,

What scope and mount would you recommend for a PTR 91 GI without the welded rail? Am I limited to the claw mount?

    Pretty much
Take heart though. PTR did a great job with the grooves for those claw mounts. I recall a review that said HK had to have specialists match claw mounts to rifles and then serialized the mounts to the rifles. PTR did a better job so any claw mount should work fine.

I sold all my clones and bought new ones with the welded rail. Much much better.

I don't have any first hand experience (mine has the welded rails) but I recall reading that the cheapy UTG low-profile mounts actually work well. Something like this:

For my setup (again, I have the welded rails) is a Primary Arms 1-8x scope on an Aeroprecision cantilever AR mount. The scope is short enough so that it won't interfere with the charging handle. And the mount is tall enough so that the rear scope bell clears the rear sight. An added bonus is that the mount has holes cut through it so that I can still use the iron sights.

At 1x I have a lower 1/3 cowitness with the iron sights, at 1.5x the irons start to blur, and above 2x I don't see the irons at all. The only negative for me is that the scope height is an in-between. It's too short for a proper cheek weld so I have to use a chin weld, but it's not tall enough for the HK buttstock riser to work either.
