    USSOCOM Replaces EOTech Sights

What was old is new again!

FWIW, I never had issues with mine and we started with the older model with the AA battery. The newer one with the sideways battery was even better.

Naval Surface Warfare Center – Crane Division, acting as the program office for special operations weapons procurement on behalf of United States Special Operations Command has announced a $23,637,320 contract to L-3 Communications EOTech for Close Quarters Battle Sights. We do not yet have verification of which model was selected.

Good for EOTech. I wonder iv Vortex UH-1 was considered. I slightly prefer it to the EOTech, but both are good.

I had to look up that Vortex as I hadn't heard about it. It sounds like it was released only recently so it wasn't part of the SOCCOM evaluation.

AimPoint T2, Leupold LCO, DeltaPoint PRO and Trijicon MRO and SRS were the other ones tested.

I sent all my Eotechs in for a refund back during their whole debacle and been running nothing but Aimpoints and Trijicons ever since. BUT, I'm willing to give them a second chance. Waiting for my DD MK18 to get out of NFA jail and considering putting an EXPS2 with the new green reticle on it.

I heard a few were circulated. The guys I talked to didn't really like them.

Did they indicate why? I am very curious. I know a few people at Crane, but not anyone involved with this.

Some say the reticle is fuzzy, others picked up some sort of weird refresh rate flickering.

Not even sure if it's NV compatible either which makes it a non-starter for any military sight.

I was so impressed with Eotech's customer service approach to refund anyone's money, I intentionally bought two XPS2's out of principle. Having never shot an Eotech before these, I'm mad at myself for not getting them sooner. Incredibly nice optic for my use.

EOTechs work great. Never had a problem with mine.

I have two older Eotechs that have seen a lot of use and have always worked perfectly. I know it was fashionable for some to take advantage of Eotech's recent buyback, but I cannot in good conscience return something that has always worked as advertised.

I did see a really old 512 thumb screw snap on a department rifle, but it was very well worn and easy to replace without junking the entire optic.

Did you actually experience thermal drift or did you just jump ship when the opportunity came to get something new?
I’m editing my response because your comment really grinds my gears. Seriously you probably never had an issue with them, thought if their paying me what I paid for them why not, then starting looking at new stuff to buy and now...... “Your willing to give them a second chance”?!? Maybe you did have issue but your comment I’m sure applies to many in this forum and other customer base. Rant over.

I feel the same way Bobby. One of the 512’s I bought had an issue with the screen before the debacle. I sent it in and it was returned in a week fixed. I really cannot believe how many people got refunds because of an issue might happen. I feel like 99% of people just saw it an opportunity to get something new. Their customer service was so over the top.

Mine worked fine, and I returned it. Full disclosure: I only used mine in some pretty benign weather conditions - it was a cool toy.

I returned it because they knowingly committed fraud (I believe that the court documents support this) and I hate liars. They committed this fraud regarding the performance of their widget against contractual requirements. The impact of those lies led to various weather-induced failures of the widget. Now any sight can fail, anything with a battery is more prone to failure, and soldiers tend to know those things...but it's that up-front lying part that grinds my gears.

Companies suddenly get very accommodating with commercial customer service when they're looking at the guilty end of major lawsuits. That means they'll eventually lose less money than they could if they clam up.

                          Assume much?

I don't owe you an explanation but just so you don't do too much damage to your gears....yes, I had issues with my Eotechs. One of them would drain the batteries monthly (and no, I didn't forget to turn it off) and the other one had issues with reticle brightness. Unacceptable to me in a military grade optic.

I have always preferred the EOTech due to the reticle. They're also better if you shoot with helmet mounted NVG's, due to the optic's larger window. You can mount the EOTech on a high riser and basically look through it and shoot. A lot of guys in CAG and Ground Branch run that setup.

I return mine when the recall came out. I liked them but used the magnifier which exacerbated my astigmatism issues and they where heavy. I’ve found the illuminated 1-4 and 1-6 point blank scopes a better option for me. Glad they fixed whatever the problem was.
