Which Scope mounts for Rem 700 308

I bought a decent scope for my short action 700 in 308.
Id like to get a good set of mounts for it (30mm Tube).
Are you guys putting a rail on your 700 or mounting directly to the barrel?
I want something solid for hunting, thanks.

Both my 700s have a 20 MOA canted pic rail. I have Leopuld PRW medium height rings for my 6-24x50 Viper. I think it fits my rifle well.

EGW picatinny rail and Burris Zee rings. Is all you need. No need to spend more or reinvent the wheel.

I (and many others) despise the look of a rail on a hunting rifle. Talley one piece lightweight mounts are the way to go. Proven and foolproof.

I (and many others) despise the look of a rail on a hunting rifle. Talley one piece lightweight mounts are the way to go. Proven and foolproof.

I got the Talley extended mounts on my rifle now.
I might just keep them. I was testing the waters to see if there was anything better out there.

That is an interesting idea.
But unless those pins that hold the ring in are a press fit, I can't see how they would not move.

They are not pins. They are screws with cone tips that pull the ring halves down toward the base.
