Scope recommendations for AR, $400-$500 range

I'm researching what kind of scope to put on my AR (20" DPMS High Rise Upper) and I want to spend between $400-$500. It will mostly be used for target shooting at the range between 100-500 yards. Thanks in advance for your input.

Disclaimer - I know how to use iron sights, so it will not be necessary to inform me of your opinion that I need to learn to shoot better with them.

I'd go with the Vortex Viper in that price range. In 3 years of selling them I've never taken a return....They are on from .22 to 50 cal w/o a hiccup..
