M1A - VLTOR CASV or Troy Battle Rail

    Hello,

I am starting a M1A Loaded project. Can anyone chime in on rail upgrades? I want to mount a scope. Has anyone used either a VLTOR CASV or Troy Battle Rail? any help would be appreciated - thanks !

Do you need the rail for other things, or are you just wanting to mount a scope? I have a Basset mount on my standard M1a. Simple and it works well.

I'll second the Bassett Picatinny mount. Easy to mount/ and remove. Maintains a repeatable zero on re-install.

I would not mount a light or back up irons on the rail. It would be great to shoot with and without the scope sometimes . I wanted a single point sling hence the rail . However, I like the look of the Basset - keeps the original look. Can you use the stock irons with the mount? I am using Warne quick realeases on my scope.

You can easily remove the Basset to shoot irons, or buy the standard high mount which gives enough clearance to shoot irons with the optic mounted. Of course that would depend on the ring height and objective diameter.

Great advice ! It is the little things that create challenges . Sounds like I may go with the high mount. Thanks
