The shift issue is inherent to the design, and is also present in most red dot sights. Eotech got caught in a lie and it blew up in their face.

I still think they are the best thing going for CQB all the way out to 300 yards and maybe beyond. I kept mine and still use them. Still printing nice little groups when I sight in.

From what I understand it's "both." They fixed manufacturing defects that accounted for huge temperature-driven shift as well as the possibility of moisture incursion. Yes, their admission came only after a federal investigation.

Only you can tell if this is going to bother you. Are you likely to be shooting in temps approaching zero on one end, and 120 on the other, at distances beyond 50 yards? I'm not. Others are. And if you are, you probably need to stay away from these types of sights period.

I'm not an operator who operates operationally, but I do want to know my gear is bomb-proof within the conditions I'm likely to encounter at my worst. So, impervious to submersion, impact-resistant, and accurate under any circumstances to within a pie plate at 100 yards.

Yeah they got caught up in a lie....and I can understand the philosophical/moral opposition to that company and their products. But the internet really blew the actual thermal drifting itself way out of proportion.

After spending tons of time and money to fix the issue(s) for DOD, their largest client by a wide margin, they where unable to fix the problem. DOD filed a lawsuit and Eotech admitted liability within a day. For the consumer market they have changed absolutely nothing other than to re-write their specification to allow for thermal drift. I had three I sent back for full MSRP refumds. I bought an Elcan with the refunds.

They also have not fixed the delamination issue. Or, the short battery life.

I didn't find out about this issue until one of my guys told me about it after we returned from our last tour.

The first time we went to Iraq, we had the older EOTechs with the AA battery. No issues other than sometimes the reticle would dim in the corners.
Although there was one time, one of my guys had the reticle not appear when he was expecting it and had to use his flip up irons. When I looked at it later, it turns out he accidentally pressed the Night Vision button. The sight was still working fine.

The last time we went, we started getting the newer shorter ones with the sideways CR123 battery and the 3x magnifier. We had no issues.

Obviously, with that SOUM, the engineers say that there are issues. I'm just saying that under field use, we did not notice any.

I do not deny that others may have had bad experiences with them.

I use an Eotech on my range gun. I think it has the best reticle. Battery life sucks though.

For my SHTF rifle, the only red dot I trust is Aimpoint.

Agreed that batteries should be on a changing schedule. It's not put them in and forget. You have to keep track like smoke detectors. Change when the clocks change for DST or something.

Pretty sure it is present in ALL red dot designs. EoTech just caught heat for it. When it's really the stupidity of the public and DoD to blame.

The issue is non-existent for most of us. We are not going to be in Ecuador one day and in the Arctic the next. Our climate is going to remain within norms so the device will hold zero just fine for us.

What was happening what that rifles zeroed in normal temperatures where having to be re-zeroed when taken to extreme climate zones like the equator or the North Pole. It was a "no s___ Sherlok" moment that got turned on it's head and blamed on EoTech, as if they control the laws of physicis. Anybody who understands how lasers actually work...would have seen this coming. The idea that they wouldn't take the time to rezero their rifles when they just got done traveling half way around the world and had no idea if somebody touched their optics while the rifles where out of their possession didn't occur to EoTech, or anybody else, either.

Unreasonable expectations on the client's part. No other way to put it.
