Bushnell TRS-25 Red dot does not work in daylight.

Got this Red Dot for a great price from an auction. It is new, never used. I pop a battery in it and it is nice and bright.

I took it to the outdoor range to test it out for the first time, turn it on and no red dot, I put my hand over the front of the lense and can make out the red dot but it is very faint. I guess the battery is almost dead.

The next trip to the range I bring a few extra batteries, test it out at the house and it is nice and bright. At the range, however, it again looks to be almost dead. I try out a couple more batteries and same thing. At full brightness setting, I have a hard time making out the red dot. If I get it on the black of the target I can see it. I dial it in and it is very accurate, the round hits dead on the dot every time but I have a hell of a time finding the red dot after each shot. If looking at the dirt backstop I cant see it, on the white paper I can make it out and on the black, it is better but I am taking too much time between shots just to find the red dot again. I would much rather just use iron sights.

Back at the house, the red dot is nice and bright. I am amazed at how much just a little daylight makes the red dot useless.

Is this common? Even at full lvl 11 brightness, the dot looks almost dead outside. Or is my red dot just malfunctioning?

I got this at an auction house so I do not have a receipt or warranty on it to just send it in or replace it. I do not even know if it is malfunctioning or it just sucks outside.

Anyone else have this red dot? does this sound consistent with yours?

Do a search. Many of us have these sitting on a shelf as opposed to mounted on a rifle.

The brightest setting is not really bright enough. Unfortunately part of the game with this budget optic. I took mine off for this reason

Same, the Bushnell was nice for the price and was my first optic, but quickly went to the shelf as I upgraded to Sig, Eotech, and Aimpoint red dots.

I shoot outdoors. Have one mounted on my AK and it looks fine for me. Maybe you got a defective unit.

Sounds like you all got bad ones. I have 3 and they work great in bright daylight. I have one on my competition gun they're so good. I have expensive red dots too, but still use TRS-25's on many of my guns.

I've got them on a couple rifles and a pistol and they all work fine in bright light. I wouldn't put them on a fighting gun, but for a fun one, they're great low cost dots.

I recently purchased one of these for my 9mm carbine. Taking it to an outdoor range for the first time Sunday. Hope this is not the case but will let you know if I encounter the same issue

Tested it out today and it worked great. I don't have any trouble seeing the red dot and was shooting up to 50 yards

Thanks for posting back. I think I will pick up a brand new fresh name brand battery and give it another shot. I hope maybe my batteries I was using just suck, But I am thinking it is my red dot.

Mine works fine in bright daylight. Best bang for the buck optic there is IMO.
