Beginners Guide to Optics

I recently got a Yugo M48 Mauser and would like to put a scope on it. Can anyone recommend some sites that give a good intro to Optics for beginners? I really don't know the first thing about scopes, so it would have to be pretty basic.

Also, any suggestions on what type of scope to put on a Mauser? I'm not concerned with keeping it "authentic" or "period". A modern scope is fine with me. Any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks!
