Which Vortex Glass for my Grendel

Finally finished my grendel build and need some advise on glass. Decided to go with Vortex as it seems every one is happy with them for the price and I can get a deal on them. I did a 16" build which will be used to hunt and punch paper for fun maybe out to 500 or 600 but just for fun I recognize I am no expert marksman and I didn't do a crazy highend build. Price is a factor I am frugal but at the same time don't want a piece of junk. Here are the 3 I narrowed it down to. Let me know what you all think
    Crossfire 2, 4-12x42 AO
    Diamondback 4-12x40
    Diamondback 3-12x42

I have the crossfire 2. Pretty happy with it and I got it on sale from primary arms.

It’s better than my leupold 3x9 as far as clarity for sure.

I heard the diamond back glass is suppose to be pretty good. Almost viper quality

Crossfire II is dog's butt. Diamondback 3-12x42 if you must stick with Vortex; it has side focus that the 4-12x40 doesn't.

Which Vortex Glass for my Grendel

Depending on what type of hunting you will be doing, you may want less than 4x mag on the low end. If you are trying to find in the scope a hog that is on the move at 50 yards your FOV is going to be very limited with those 4-12 scopes. Also if you will be hunting at first or last light of the day consider how the scope performs in low light. Consider the extent to which you will be shooting targets at 600 yards using the 12x mag versus hunting under the conditions I mentioned. You may get more for your money buying a used scope off this forum. I have a Grendel also. They are fun to shoot. Good luck!

Go with the Diamondback 4-12x40, definitely worth the jump over the crossfire

Not everyone is happy with them for the price. In fact there are many people who don’t care for Vortex scopes until you get to the Razor line. My complaint with them is low light performance and critical eye box.

To punch paper at 500-600 yards, if you go Vortex at least get a Viper.

You must have unusual eyes. Leupold scopes have better glass than Crossfires, unless possibly you are comparing and older model Leupold to a Crossfire.

I have a low end leupold and a crossfire 2. The leupold is a 3-9 and crossfire 4-12. At maximum magnification the mirage is much worse on the leupold

I have a inexpensive Leuplold Mark AR MOD1 Mildot 1" 3-9x40... blows away my CrossfireII 3-9x50... not even close. I guess I need to take them both out and compare in good lighting side by side to give the CF another chance. CFII was dirt cheap, less than $100 but I wasn't impressed with it. I guess cost-wise it was what I should have expected. Leupold always seems like good glass to me, but maybe I haven't seen the super cheap models.

Always liked my Diamondback, Vipers, Strike Eagle...

Is it a closely guarded secret or are you able to reveal what model of Leupold you are referring to and how old it is?

Before buying anything I would look a SWFA especially for the 6.5 grendel. Ok glass but the turrets track true, military grade 300 dollar or less long range optic.

Maybe someone can verify, but I thought the Mark AR line was VX-1 glass... maybe it is better. If it is VX-1 glass, I had the opposite experience comparing two 3-9's

I built a Grendel and it's an awesome rifle. I went 22" barrel. Originally I had a viper pst 4-24x50 on it but I mounted that on my RPR in 6.5cm and now I'm shopping for a replacement Grendel scope. I will say that the weight of the PST was not good, the rifle was over ten pounds with scope. I think my next scope will be less than a pound mounted. I'm looking at an older Razor HD light hunter line or Primary arms scope. Trust me when I say that unless you're gonna be bench shooting that gun you'll want a light set up.
