Question: Optic AND Laser

Am I seeing this right? This shooter has both an optic (in this case, a holographic weapon sight) AND a visible laser?


How the heck does that sight picture work? Would you try to place the laser right at the center of the existing EOTech reticle?


Or would you slightly offset it to give you a second point of aim within the reticle?


I understand the advantage of redundancy ("two is one; one is none"), but it seems like a disadvantage to have your brain try to process two separate dots -- one from the optic (e.g. red dot sight, holographic sight, etc), and one from the laser.

Definitely could be an IR laser, but there are also some uses for visible laser.

If you are wearing certain gear (armor, helmet, gas mask) it can be hard to get your regular cheek weld/sight picture.

Also, you could have the optic zero'd for 100yds and then zero the laser for a closer range instead of having to mentally account for the offset.

In general, you can zero the laser on the point of impact at a given range or you can do a parallel zero. The absolute zero is only accurate for the range that you zero'd at while a parallel zero has a greater range of usability.
