    SureFire LED Conversion Units?

I have a half dozen older P60 based SureFire weapons lights that I'd like to convert to LED; tired of replacing the costly shock mounted lamps in those things. Can we get a list of the available LED conversions with links to websites please? I saw a few for around $50 each! That's a bit steep IMO, I'm hoping there are more reasonably priced units out there.

    Thanks,

Sure Fire sells LED conversion for 6P, G2, etc, for $49 on their web site. I've not seen them cheaper anyplace else but I continue to look.

Lighthound dot com has some non-sure fire heads with Cree LEDs and I have two. Excellent. Not Surefire, but they work for me.

He is in Loma Linda (SOCAL).

I have a local pickup set up for this coming Tues, for some SureFire 6P LED conversions lamps & tailcap stuff, for an up coming 3-Gun night match.

              Aha! That's more like it.

I'll try a few of those at $20; if they're no good I'll just look for something else but the reasonable price is a good start. Thanks!

I picked up two of these R2 units and they rock. I paid 13.00 but now they are 9.00 a unit:

Just expect two weeks for shipping. There also used to be a P6 lamp comparison thread. That had a ton of info.

Surefire has the KX2/KX2C heads, not sure if any aftermarket.

The TNVC drop-ins are well reviewed, but are rated at emitter lumens, so torch lumens (out the front) are more like 170 lumens, not 256.

I've used Malkoff, Surefire, and a variety of cheap ebay and DealExtreme drop-ins.

Malkoff's got the highest output, best construction, often the best color, have the best regulation and excellent runtime, and the widest variety of versions. They're the gold standard currently, and are expensive. Malkoff also makes the brightest, but it'll cost you.

Surefire's P60L is good and solid, too expensive (I pay $30 used for them), slightly purplish, unregulated, not super bright (on purpose), has mediocre runtime, and mediocre throw. I have them in my go-to lights, as I can't afford a bunch of Malkoffs, but if you're buying them new, pay a little more for Malkoffs.

The cheap Chinese dropins from ebay and DX are a mixed bag. Construction is unpredictable, sometimes they're unreliable, most don't work well in a G2 without removing the big spring or putting in a copper adapter ring, but they have good output, often have good color, and are cheap. I've tested one on a shotgun in a G2, and it held up fine through 65 rounds. For the money, these are hard to beat, as long as you're aware they may not be top quality.

If you're going to use it on a gun, be sure to test it well, as always.

                          P60 drop-ins.

I too have Many Malkoff P60 drop-ins, Deal Extreme R2 and Q5 drop-ins, and a bunch of other variants.
IMHO: First rule when purchasing P60 LED drop-in for your Surefire varieties is do not purchase the ebay versions. The ebay versions are way over rated. I purchased the Cree R2 290 lumens and the Alpha G8 400 lumens for My Surefire G2. I was stoked and amazed. Then I got a Malkoff M60 and the party was over. The M60 appears much brighter and had more throw than the Alpha G8. (The Alpha G8 is around $30 to $40 on ebay).

If you want a inexpensive Cree R2 or Q5 go to Deal Extreme. Cree LED P60 drop-ins range from $9 to $24 dollars and 140 lumens to 400 lumens (P60 MC-E).

If you want quality and better looking beam with no ugly black circle around the hot center get the Malkoff M60. It makes a True 230 lumens out the front. He now makes the MC-E P60 drop-in that makes over 500 Lumens out the front.

If you want something with good beam quality, but not as expensive as the Malkoff M60 variants, then Deerelight.com has Cree R2 pushing 1.2amps. I just got the warm version with 3 modes and I really like it. It has less sidespill than the M60, but it throws further.

Currently my favorate P60 drop-in: I have a Malkoff Devices MC-E warm on Direct Drive. ON direct drive the quad LED pushes 3.5amps At 3.5amps that is well over 1000 lumens, but it drops to 800 Lumens after 10 minutes for the majority of the remaining time. I have to use IMR18650 rechargeable battery because of the high amp draw.

I have My Surefire 6P's bored to be able to fit the thicker 18650 cells. The great thing about the MC-E on Direct drive is that it can be put on single IMR16340 cells. My two Surefires below both push from 700 to 1000 lumens. The little guy has a Direct drive P7 and the bigger 6P has a MC-E direct drive.

If you look at the picture on the left, that is an E1b with a 6P head. It still runs on a single CR123, but with the 6P head I can put any P60 designed for a single cell. I have 4 P60 LED's designed for a single cell.

                              1 more thing.

I have to add this because a many folks think Cree R2's are pushing 270 to 300 plus Lumens. Well let me tell you it is impossible.

A Cree R2 commercially available that will make 200 lumens out the front is Solarforce R2 and Deerelight R2. The Deerelight at 1.2amps is pushing the limits of the R2 and likely around 225 lumens out the front. Anymore amp draw and the Deerelight R2 will cook and die.

Quad emitters can break the 300 lumen out the front barrier and I use MC-E and P7 when I want more than 300 lumens, but they throw half as far as single LED emitters like R2, Q5, ect..

Also, Custom single emitters like the Diamond Dragon can be pushed to 2amp draw and make about 400 lumens out the front, but I do not know any commercially available P60 drop-ins using the Diamond Dragon (it is essentially a Cree R2 that makes double the Lumens).

Cree R2's Make less than 300 Lumens......No matter what it says on ebay.
