    Optics for Gamo Whisper Cat

Any suggestions for optics for a Gamo Whisper Cat 177? Break Barrel with 1300 FPS. looking for 10-50 yards. Something that can take the abuse from the break barrel. Thanks for any help.

You need a scope rated/designed for air rifles.
If you use other scopes it will beat them to death.
A 4x or 3X9 will do just fine.
A 30cal will reach out and touch them. A 50cal will kick their butt.

SWFA SS scopes are supposed to be safe to use on all airguns. I used 10x42 and 6x42 SS Classic scopes for that purpose and they worked well and focused close.

For the money, they are hard to beat.

Check out the Nikon Prostaff Target EFR. It's specifically designed to handle air rifle recoil.

I'm using a Hawke 2- 6 on my springer. Nice airgun rated scope for a good price.

The problem with break barrels is the scope will be off if the barrel doesnt return to the exact same spot everytime. I may be picky, but I found it annoying with my Gamo to the point I stuck with the iron sites.

Thanks for all the info. I didn’t even take into consideration about the barrel return.

True, to a point, but you can still get usable groups out of your break barrel. The trick is that you need break in the rifle, which is basically shooting out all of the lube in the compression chamber. It diesels if there is any oil in it, giving inconsistent groups. 100-200 rounds should settle your rifle down. Also, don't hold the forend tightly; in other words, use an artillery hold. Springers tend to shoot better like that.

This is a 5 shot 35 yard sighting-in group shot from my Benjamin Regal, using a not-so-great rest. The one low shot is a called flier. While I'll never win any matches with it, the rifle will shoot a minute of squirrel out beyond 50 yrds. Scope is a Hawke 2-7x32ao Vantage https://www.amazon.com/Hawke-Sport-O...CX1ZHH0D3SJHV3 BTW I called Hawke to see if the scope was AR rated, and they said yes.

I have one on my RWS 34 and after zeroing it once, it shoots wonderfully

Really crisp image, focuses down to 10yds, really great scope for air rifles
