        I went Nightforce NXS 2.5-10

Over your budget, but great glass to see shots landing at 100 yards.

You could also go with a Leupold MK4 which I used for quite awhile, but then I retired that to a clone rifle.

I have a Vortex Diamondback HP 4-16x42 on a CZ 455 and a Vortex Viper HS-T 4-16x44 on a Kidd. Both provide enough magnification for 100 yards.

However, like others mentioned, a lot of options for $500. I'd guess you'd need at least 12x for precision shooting at 100 yards, but maybe you can get away with less.

The field is wide open for a range scope at that price point. Get out and look and as many as you can then buy what you like best as long as it is a quality name brand and not junk like BSA.
A 30cal will reach out and touch them. A 50cal will kick their butt.

With a $500 budget the option is endless. Go to a gun shop and try some scopes. I personally went with a vortex diamondback hp 4x16. Also try out the nikon monarch line.

Bench shooting on paper? Weaver T-36. 36x fixed magnification scope. Perfect for what you indicated, especially given the high magnification for shooting groups. Fine adjustments at 1/8MOA per click. Really solid optical clarity. Should be at or under $500.

You'll need a scope that can focus down to 20 yards for bench shooting. That'll narrow down a lot. Look into the leupold VX2 options with AO I have a bushnell HD 4.5-14x44 on my 452 American.
WTB 3rd Gen SW also looking for a 22 pistol with 6" bbl or longer

I really like my Vortex Diamondback. Cheap, clear glass, and looks nice on a CZ455. I don't think you need to break the bank for a 22lr rifle.

For shooting paper, you'll want high mag.

                        1) Check out the Bushnell Elite 4500 8-32. Can be had for under $300.
                        2) I'll echo the Weaver T36 mentioned above.
                        3) SWFA straight 20
                        4) Sightron SII Target; either 6-24 or straight 36. Or the S-Tac 4-20x50

I’d probably get a Leupold VX-3i 4.5-14x40 with Side Focus.
