    Selecting the right Bobro Mount

Hi, total newb here. I'm hoping someone could confirm I'm on the right track and dole out a little advice:

I have an M1A Scout Squad. I'd like to put a "scout" optic on the forward mount.

Based on my research, the Burris 2-7 x32 is a good option. I like that it is a variable scope. I think it has the right intermediate eye relief. It gets really good reviews and a number of M1A owners seem to use them. There really aren't very many scout scope options with the right eye relief distance for using the forward mounts on the M1A. So I think the Burris is a good choice among few candidates.

I'd like a detachable mount with good "return to zero." Many people recommend Bobro mounts for this. Bobro has dozens of mounts to choose from. After looking through them and reading what I can, here is what I think I can cross off the list:

    - I don't think I need a 20MOA version of any of the mounts. My understanding is that the 20MOA versions are for much longer distances than I'll be shooting with the M1A.

    - Bobro's come in "single lever scope mounts" and "dual lever." While I don't really know how much of a difference the dual mounts would make (I can only guess they are more secure?), they don't seem to make any for a 1" mount. http://www.bobroengineering.com/brow...-scope-mounts/ Since I need a 1" mount, I guess I can cross "dual lever" off the list.

    - Since the scope eye relief numbers and the forward mount position on the M1A line up well, I don't think I need any of the "extended" mount options.

So assuming I'm on the right track so far, here is what I'm down to, either:

    A. The Precision Optic Mount 1" Rings http://www.bobroengineering.com/view/product/9/

    or

    B. The Ultra Low Mount 1", Pair

The Ultra Low's get the scope a fraction of an inch lower, which I understand is a good thing. But they only come in single ring configurations and I'd have to buy two. I'm not sure why and I'm not sure if that is bad, good or neutral.

So, any thoughts as to whether I'm thinking about this right? Any advice as between choice A and B? Thanks in advance.

I think the Bobro is too tall for the scout position. It’s 1.5” tall which would require some kind of cheek riser.

It is an awesome mount though.

I recall when I used to run a leupold scout scope I used low leupold rings to get it close to the barrel as possible and even then I used a cheek riser.

Ah shoot. Seriously? Well, back to the drawing board. What do you think is a good height for the scout position? Are there any other mount brands known for having a good detachable system? Thanks for weighing in.

I don't actually remember. I think I had used Leupold Quick Release rings... probably medium or something?

Even with it installed I did install a Karsten Cheek Rest to give me proper cheek weld.

        It worked great together.

Generally speaking, if you want QD and return to zero, you should use a single mount rather than two separate rings which would increase the chance of not having a perfect return to zero. The lowest single lever Bobro mount has a height of 1.33 which should still be low enough to not require the use of a cheek riser on your stock.

Mute you’re able to get proper check weld with a 1.33” height mount on a stock stock?

            Maybe my memory is broken.

I do have an M1A scout I’ve been meaning to put a scout scope on.

I agree with HK Dave. Bobro is a great mount, but a little too tall for the m1a

It differs from people to people but I've tried it on a friend's M1A and it was ok, barely. The lower 11.0" height of the ultra low mount would be better though. Personally, I'd prefer not QD rings altogether for a scout. Scope might have made a difference too. The one I tried had a Leupold IER 2.5 Scout
