Night Vision Optics on Airguns?

Do the same rules apply for using NV on air rifles? Are the CA illegal NV scopes only illegal when used on a firearm, or are they banned to possess?

There's a sticky thread in the Optics section about CA and NV, I would check it out.

But essentially, you can have NV on a gun as long as there is no IR illuminator.

Are you planning on using it for hunting? If you'll get tripped up anywhere that will be it. Airguns aren't firearms under the law. Regardless, why even bother with the NV that uses IR illuminators when there are many better options in the same price range?

I don't hunt, just target shoot. Thought it might be fun to do so when it's dark. Plus, I'm kind of cheap, are the ATN models good enough for distances less than 50 meters?
