Top of the line 3-Gun scope

    Hello,

I have read a few sub $$$ scope for 3 gun threads... What is the best scope at any price?

Is anyone running the ELCAN SPECTER DR with success?

I haven't heard of any top shooter using an ELCAN SPECTER DR.

Some of the top dogs use the Schmidt & Bender short dot. It runs about $2,200, The top 3-gunner at the present time, Taran Butler, uses a Trijicon Accupoint. While he is sponsored by them he get the the job done with it. A buddy of mine who finished in the top 5 at every big match last year uses one too.

That said there is no real concensus on the "best" scope. Most people run a 1-4 variable. But a good fixed power scope can work too. An ACOG TA11 got me to 16th last year at the SSMM 3-Gun despite a shot-out rifle barrel.

Its more what you used, what you practice with and knowing your zero(s) out to 300.

      TMC,

I was thinking the same thing but figured I would ask... On the good side I own a TA11.

I would assume the Accupoint guys are using the #4 crosshairs.

I think I will pick up a 1/4 or 1 - 4 optic of some type... just not sure what.

What make the 1x scopes "fast"? Is it the field of view? Does eye relief play a factor?

Actually most I know are using the triangle.

I switched to one at the end of last year. I have the red triangle, it glows nice and bright for close fast stuff and with a 200 zero its about a 1 triangle hold over for 300.

The advantage of a variable is you can power down to 1x for the close stuff so you have a large field of view and don't lose targets when you transition. You then run it up to to the higher powers for the long stuff.

I like a scope with a long eye-relief so you don't have to hug the rifle to get a clear sight picture. At most 3-gun matches you don't get to shoot off a bench, if you're lucky you'll be prone but more likely you'll be propping off a spool, railing or some other uncomfortable object so some give in the scope is good.

This info is for Tactical class, of you shoot open you can put 5 scopes on if you can fit them...open is open.

My Acog is very bright in the day too. The lines up tp the triangle don't get in the way?

If I had all the money I would get the Swarovski Z6i 1-6. 1X at the low end and 6X at the top.

I think a 1-6x Tac scope would be an advancement. Too bad Swav has no interest in the Tac market, so it will be a hunting scope through and through.

TA11, or Accupoint are my votes. Bright, easy to pick up reticle are FAST.

                      Cheaper alternative - Millett DMS-1???

I was looking at that scope, but my problem with it is that they dont really have a reticle that's good for hold overs for those long shots.
I even emailed Swarovski, asking them to put one of their other cross hairs in it, but their reply pretty much said that they didn't see the market for it.
I'm using a Meopta K-Dot and I'm really happy with it.

The issue with the Millet is the lighted reticle is not bright in the daylight so it doesn't lend itself to fast up close stuff like the Trijicon scopes.

I'm using an older Accupoint with the Amber triangle in it. I had a newer Accupoint with the Red triangle and I didn't like it. With the Amber I can leave it full open and catch all the light works good for hoser stuff but doesn't draw your eye the way the red does. With the red, the longer range stuff I'd have to turn my FO down or the red would bloom. I don't have to do that with the Amber.

I have the Meopta K dot also but I don't use it much, great scope but I'm dialed in with the setup I'm using now. If I change I'd have to spend money on ammo to get back to where I am now. It's a good scope and I range with it fine. The big draw back on this scope for me is battery only. With no illumination at all the small reticle is hard for me to see. Put a FO in this scope and it would be much better.

Trijicon has come out with a Accupoint with a 30mm tube. Taran is running it on his rifle I checked it out. It's a true 1 power where the older scopes weren't.

Other than the lack of brightness the Bushnell I looked at had a good ranging reticle.

I move slow but I make up for it by shooting poorly.

When I hit the lotto I'm only shooting factory.
