    Optic for 6.5 Grendel

I'm building a 6.5 Grendel AR w/ a 20" SS barrel for fun time at the range.

I currently have a Vortex Diamondback HP 4-16x42 on a .243 Rem 700 bolt action that I'm happy with (http://www.vortexoptics.com/product/...eticle/reticle). It gets me to 600 yds (probably a little further but my shooting range is limited to 600 yds). I like this scope and wouldn't oppose a 2nd purchase but was wondering if there is another scope to consider within my budget ($375). If there was one downside with this scope, it is I can't see comfortably beyond 13x.

I am using a 6-16 FFP scope with a half-mildot reticle on my Grendel and I really like it. Those are the things I would look for-

2-10, 4-14, 6-16, just in that neighborhood is a good magnification
FFP, which I find is key, especially if shooting targets at range where you may not use full magnification
Mil-dot reticle, or maybe a Horus/Tremor style reticle

I would also look for zero-stop target turrets in a scope I was going to ue on a Grendel
Fear is the spare change that will keep you broke

My 18" 6.5G is going to be used for hunting and as a range toy, so I went with a trijicon 3-9x40 with a sfp moa reticle and moa turrets. Probably not what other's would choose, but it works for me. IMHO I don't need a FFP scope, and I wanted to keep the size and weight down. I used the money saved on the ffp to get better optics and a lighted reticle. That said, I do have a very good 6-24 sightron big sky scope that I can use in case I want to stretch it's legs.

I'm running a 2-10 Burris XTR II, with a red dot. Used it for hunting and a DMR rifle. Works perfect

My wife thinks I only have 3 guns

          I have a vortex pst 6-24x50 ebr-2 mrad ffp

It's an awesome scope but a yeah bit heavy if you ever plan on hunting. The whole rig weighs 10lbs and scope is 2.5lbs of that.

          I also have a 20" barrel.

Just something to consider, range is dependent on scope. I went with 24x because I really wanted to have range when I needed it. Decide what your distance is then but then choose the scope that fits it, not budget then distance after.

I got a really good deal, so I'm not saying blow cash, I'm saying save for quality and look for deals. It's better than having the wrong tool for the job.

Hard to beat that scope in that price range, I have the 4-12 version of that scope
No problem at 12x, shooting the 500 meter rams Sac Valley today even in the heat, the HP scopes have their XD glass clearer then the regular Diamondback I would buy again I might try the new Diamondback Tactical only thing no XD glass but a 500 600 yards It's not going to be a problem

While it is pretty hard to beat Vortex's value, here are some other options to consider:

              Sightron S-TAC 4-20x50

              Nikko Stirling 4-16x44 FFP
