I have one of the older 2-10X42 XTR II scopes when they were not yet illuminated and only had the G2 mil dot reticle. It's a very solid scope with decent glass and excellent tracking/repeatability. Very solidly built, you definitely get the impression that it would do fine in a combat environment. New versions of the scope are available with an illuminated SCR-MOA reticle:

I would agree 100% I have one on a SPR build and love it. Also have 3x15 on a LR308 great scopes with lifetime warranty

If your looking for something lighter look into the Leupold AR line of scopes.

Just picked up an Athlon Ares 4.5-27x50 today for my 308. Can't comment on performance yet.

This will sound silly- buy another Nightforce 2.5-10x24.

        Same eye relief
        Same reticle
        Same mirage characteristics
        Same adjustments

Snipers hide and other forums have a lot of higher end used scopes ...wait a bit to see if you can find a copy of your nightforce used.....

Have you considered moving the Nightforce 2.5-10X24 onto the 16" rifle, and getting a larger Nightforce SHV F1 4-14X50 with MOAR reticle for the 6.5?

Yes. I was thinking about doing just that, but with the SWFA SS 10x.
I wanted to get other options before I pulled the trigger on the SWFA.

The SHV looks good too-but for the same price I could get the Burris (illuminated reticle big +) with Larue mount.

But the more I look around the more I lean toward taking the cocked-eyebrow I'll get from my wife for getting another 2.5-10x24.
It's got the durability, quality, features and reputation in a much smaller package.

                  So looking around I found a gen 1 pst 2.5-10x32 for $800.
The gen II are running around $950.

Are the gen II really worth the extra $150?

For the price of the gen II I could get the gen I and a mount.

The Burris that FMJBT mentioned is pretty much a direct competitor with the Vortex, so between the two it just comes down to which features you like best.

And what looks cooler. Because that matters, too

Just got a gen II PST 2-10x32, new in box, off the equipment exchange at ar15.com for $800 shipped.
I am glad this search is over lol

Dropping deuces you were right, the Vortex looks pretty damn good on an AR!

I really like the gen 1 that I have. It's a heck of an optic for the price and it does look very nice on an AR with the smaller objective. In hindsight, I might have gone with a NF instead, just because it's a little more Gucci, but was really intrigued at the time by the price and features of the Vortex, and it performs great. Very happy with it.

Well really I'm telling ya I have no qualms telling people my rifle wears a Nightforce so I get the Gucci factor, but I'm looking forward to the Viper too!

So what am I looking for in a mount? Getting it as low as possible?
