Mark II Red/Green dot - which optic?

I have a Mark II and want to put a red or green dot optic on it. I have the Ruger rail for it but don't have a clue which optic to get. My old eyes seem to see the green dot better than the red. It's just for plinking so all I want is something not too expensive that will hold its "0". I could use some input. Any thoughts?

Slowly wave goodby to anything that is fun to shoot.

Hammers drive tacks too, but are not as much fun.

Luckily holding zero on a .22LR shouldn't be too much of a problem

Any preference between tube style and open reflex style?

and by not too expensive, you mean your budget is...?

Fast Fire 3. You could probably use the included mount, it sits pretty low. I dunno what deals are out there, but they might still be giving them away free with AR332's, 536's. Pretty sure mine is going to get a FF3 that's on a Glock.

I was looking for something under $100 and lightweight. Open reflex seems to look a little better to keep the profile down.

One of my FF3's was about $135 or free depending on how you look at it. My AR536 was about $270 shipped and I got the FF3 free. The other was $190 IIRC. You might be able to wrangle a Vortec Venom 3 MOA down to about $150 with Cabela's discounts. Or look at Primary Arms, Bushnell, Holosun options for tube RDS.

Real cheap options are similar to the old Hako Panorama and made by Sightmark (Sureshot), Browning, NC Star. Wouldn't think they would be real durable, but I've used them. Broke them too THough the last one I broke hit the steel safe door frame with full weight of a Ruger MKII 6 7/8" bull barrel pistol. Lots of plastic, glue, and pot metal on those. Sightmark makes a Mini that is a Fastfire type knock-off too for $60 but maybe $40 with Cabela's discounts.

I'd save for a deal on a Venom or FF3 or just use a tube under $100 like a TRS-25. There's a TRS-25 on my Ruger right now and on an AR-22. But there's lots of new stuff I don't know about.

The Browning Hako clone is $60 and looks better than other probably Chinese knock-offs. My buddy has one on a Buckmark where it matches better than on a Ruger Haven't heard any range reports though.

I have an idea. Try one of the Cabela's mini's and let us know if it sucks or not? It looks pretty tough.

Or maybe not... that Cabela's sight is 5-MOA and their 3 MOA version that sounds pretty tough is $200 not on sale, no discounts.

I'd still get a FF3. Ask the Optics Planet guy to give you a smoking deal on one. How about $99 ????
