Anybody have any experience with this optic? Buddy has one and I believe it's the mg reticle. Would it work with the standard ar15 or is this a bad idea?

Elcan m145

Elcan makes great optics including the M145. If this is the type of optic you want, it's works well and is durable and reliable. It's a bit heavier and bulkier than an ACOG (which is also excellent), but has slightly more eye relief so a touch easier to get behind. It would be a very good match with a standard AR. Keep in mind, this is not a red dot sight, so it doesn't have the same speed of target acquisition in closer target distances.NRA Benefactor Life Member

This scope does not have more eye relief than an ACOG. (I have a 3.5x and 5.5x).Elcan makes great optics including the M145. It winks out with movement worst of any scope I have ever owned, save POSPs.
This is not a good scope for an AR. Further, this is an "area" reticle designed for automatic fire, and not precision. To that point this scope only has 1mil external turrets for windage and elevation.
OTOH,
The glass is excellent, and is a very good combat quality scope in every sense of the word.
This scope actually does offer a M4 reticle, but they are a bit of a unicorn.
I recently (within past 6mo) sold one of these in excellent condition, with .mil only laser protector and a killflash.
I sold it for $350 and took a while but someone with a 249 bought it - which is for what it was made. If people bought these scopes based on build quality they would/should sell for closer to $1k used.
Problemis, nobody knows what they are so they sell cheap.
The scope I sold http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/s....php?t=1324454
BTW it weighs about 2lb or so.Last edited by SloChicken; 07-24-2017, 10:14 PM.sigpic

I like Elcan optics and own a Specter Dr and I have owned a M145. For the price it's not a bad deal in the used market.
I just sold mine for $340 and some change.
Will it work with an AR15? Absolutely. It's not the best for the AR but it will suffice for plinking. It's not a precision optic as it's meant for a machine gun but you can use it with an AR. They do have an M4 reticle which is what you want but the machine gun reticle will work.
Make sure you get the updated mount version.Comment
