    Lapping rings.

Just got a P.E.P.R. qd mount to mount a Steiner 1-4 P4Xi on my AR.
Also got a Wheeler scope mount kit for 1" & 30mm rings.
The PEPR rings align perfectly. Should I lap them anyway to check for/achieve 80% contact?

Scope should arrive today. Got a pretty good deal on it compared to the LGS.

If it were me, it would be good to go.

I lapped a PEPR before and it was really messed up. Was surprised to see from a one piece mount. You have the kit...use it.

        Agreed.

Higher price point mounts like Warne or Geissele I wouldn't say it is worth it but couldn't hurt to lap a PEPR mount

I now lap all rings. Some higher dollar ones turns out also could use lapping to be better.
          Just lap them.

Ok, Y'all convinced me (after all, I bought the mounting kit).
            Here is before lapping,

            After lapping,

            And, rechecked alignment,

            All looks good.
Now need the scope. Tracking says it might arrive today, which would be nice. I head to work this evening and won't be home until. Monday, possibly Tuesday.

I know I am late to the party but always lap the rings.

And lap them correctly. Do not apply too much down pressure:

Another tip if I may, for better "alignment". Flip the two alignment rods end for end. Those pointy ends only tell you if the pointy ends match up. They do not tell the whole "alignment" story.

Using the flat ends is better. If the flat ends meet perfectly "flush" the rings are properly aligned. The front and rear rings can be misaligned an equal amount. Which allows the pointy ends to meet. Still causing stress to the scope tube. BTDT

Scope arrived a few hours after the lapping was completed.
Scope is now on the gun.
Perhaps next week I can sight it in.

Got a great deal on this scope.
                      LGS has it for $685.
                      Common online price was $525.
Botech had it for $485, includes ($90) throw lever, free shipping, no tax.
