Brutal truth is that only a relative handful of Calguns users will be into any optic in the four-figure price range. You'd have better luck on AR15.com, M4carbine or P&S I'd wager.

        ^This.

Keep in mind the other highly praised and reviewed optics such as Vortex Razor's offerings as well as Nightforce NXS' lineup.

Cool learned something new today... I didn't know Eotech got into the low power variable game.

That said... its a segment of optic that was once niche, but now has huge amounts of established players, and a flood of "me too" newcomers as well in recent years.

From your research is Eotech doing anything different or special with this optic?

How does it compare to other 1-6s out there like the Razor? How's the eyebox?

For 1k+ glass, that's pretty generic feedback.

How does the glass compare to let's say; Vortex Razor, Burris XTR, SWFA HD series, Nightforce NXS, etc.

You say it was very clear so what is it you're comparing it to? Even Vortex PST glass is really clear when compared to let's say a Bushnell AR-series optic.

                  Oh, and pics too!

First of all, Vudu is a line of 3 models at different mag ranges. So we need to clear which model is being discussed.

I'm interested in the 1-6 myself. I don't own it, but it's on my research list. I was originally pretty much decided on the Trijicon TR25, until this was announced.

The distinctive features of the Vudu 1-6 relative to direct competitors, from what I can tell, are as follows:
                        • Offers two reticles, which are both Eotech's signature Circle-Dot style -- except the center dot is actually either a graded crosshair or ANOTHER circle-dot (see the illustration to understand this)
                        • All reticle elements are First focal plane, which Eotech has used in a unique way to provide the shooter with a "Circle-Dot Eotech Experience" at both 1x and 6x, again see the illustration to understand what this is all about
                        • Comes with a screw-in throw lever

Here are the exact eyebox specifications per Eotech:
                        Eye relief: 1x: 83-100mm; 6x: 82-100mm
                        Exit pupil: 11.4mm - 4.0mm

The main unanswered questions that I have are as follows:
                        • How smooth is the mag adjustment ring?
                        • How well does the included screw-in throw lever work?
                        • How well does the reticle illumination adjustment work?
                        • Is the reticle illumination sufficiently bright under the brightest desert-full-sunlight kinds of conditions?
                        • How stable is the zero?
                        • Is the 1x a true distortion-free 1x?
                        • Does Eotech give an intrusion proofing rating against dust and moisture?

Here's a few "preview" blog pages that give a little bit of information about the product but fall very far short of full evaluations:
EOTech hopes to broaden their influence with the new Vudu 1-6x24mm scope. EOTech came out with their new Vudu 1-6x24mm rifle scope at SHOT Show this year. The Vudu is a first focal plane, variable magnification rifle scope, mostly targeted to the AR-15 or similar rifle. The design captures the…

M4 and arfcom both have several reviews posted on these very optics.

I was simply curious to see if the OP's thoughts mirrored what I've read elsewhere.

For what you pay, there are a ton of already proven optics above, below, and at the same price point.

After everything Eotech has been through with their red dots, I'm surprised they entered the precision scope market. Maybe they just need to recoup $$$ after refunding everyone for their red dots?

                          I'll pass.

The refund money is literally a drop in the bucket when you consider L3/Insight's revenues from both mil and civilian lights, lasers, night vision and thermal devices.

If I was looking for a low power scope I'd definitely consider the vudu along with the Trijicon Accupower and Vortex Razor Gen II. L3 LyFe

I have handled all the Vudu scopes and shot with most of them but have not run any of them hard through a course or competition

Happy to answer what I can:

How smooth is the mag adjustment ring?
-Pretty smooth, no binding or grinding or anything but not loose feeling either

How well does the included screw-in throw lever work?
-Great. No hard edges, screws in and out fairly easy, didn't rattle loose during my shooting

How well does the reticle illumination adjustment work? The illum adjustment works fine (much better than early prototypes I saw). Pretty simple though; on/off, auto shutoff, increase/decrease.

Is the reticle illumination sufficiently bright under the brightest desert-full-sunlight kinds of conditions?
-No desert sunlight here in the midwest but in my opinion, no. The illum is not bright enough in daylight for those who like that.

                              How stable is the zero?
-I had no issues zeroing the 1-6x and it held fine during my day of shooting. The other models I shot, I did not zero but nor did they lose their zero after a decent round count

                              Is the 1x a true distortion-free 1x?
-As far as I can tell yes, but I also know I do not have perfect eyesight so all my answer means is that there was not enough distortion for me to notice

Does Eotech give an intrusion proofing rating against dust and moisture?
                              -no idea

If you like the EoTech Circle Dot reticle of the holosight, you will likely enjoy the Vudu 1-6x scope.

The glass quality/clarity is what you would expect from a scope at this price point.

It is a well made scope and the quality is befitting the price but my main critique is that I don't think the reticle is enough to differentiate them in a somewhat flooded 1-6x market and the emerging 1-8x market.

                              -Matt S.
