    Black sights

Yesterday I took out my USP elite for the first time. It came with these black adjustable sights that made target shooting nearly impossible. I was thinking of just painting the sights white. Do people do this?

Were you shooting indoors or outdoors?

I've painted my front sight post white on a Lee-Enfield and on a .22 conversion for my Springfield 1911. I've actually felt that it helps in some situations but hurts in others. For instance, its nice indoors or any other darkish location, heavy shade etc. But in bright sunlight the white-painted post can kinda disappear, depending on what kind of target, how far away etc.

Can't hurt to try it though. If you don't like it, scrap it off.

I paint only the front sight with neon orange hobby paint.

        Use white targets.

My eyes are not the best.

I switched to the blue and silver shoot n' see targets.
        Definitely helped.

Good lighting at an indoor range is a must.

I put white glow in the dark tape on my Ruger Mark III.
        It helps.
(Would help more if I exposed it before going.)

Let us know what works for you.

I vote light yellow or light orange.

I never thought about that. I could use the white and orange targets. That would solve my issue. I was using the black and yellow shoot and see. I absolutely could not find my sights.

Use a different color. Red, green, orange...

I prefer blacked out sights especially when I'm trying to be precise; everyone's eyes are different.

Blacked out rear with a fiber optic front will help you acquire quickly.

Buy a roll of neon duct tape and place a small square on every target at the center.

Pretty much only when shooting outside. FO sights suck when shooting at an indoor range with your typical sucky lighting in the shooting stall.

Not sure where you're shooting but come to think of it, makes sense -

                      Lighting is pretty sketch.

They are called target sights, but you can't see them when you shoot at a target.

They are supposedly designed for 6-o'clock hold.

Just about every indoor range I have access to has a light over the shooting position. And in almost all cases, the light is burned out. As a result, a FO front sight turns into basically an all-black post since there is no significant light being picked up by the FO tube.

Most fiber optic pick up some ambient light and glow, even faintly. But, your brand that you had may not have worked that well.

As for standard black sights indoors they are slightly difficult to use. I have to use prescription shooting glasses to focus on the front sight.
