Optics planet has a sale on holosun right now. Never owned one, but since the good reviews are sky rocketing i wanted to try one. Just bought a HS503GU for my cz scorpion. Super fun range plinker. Just needs a red dot with low mount for more fun.

I was originally looking at a vortex SPARC for my 9mm AR, but came across the Holosuns. Only recently heard about them, never seen one in person, but they look ok. Would you guys say they are somewhat comparable or more or less on par with a vortex?
Just looking for a plinking red dot - style optic for sub 100yds. What would a good model be to look at?Comment

Get the 503GU, haven't taken it out to the range but I think for the features it is worth the penny.I was originally looking at a vortex SPARC for my 9mm AR, but came across the Holosuns. I have the base model on my Camp 9. Really handy to have that auto-on feature, really nice to pick up the gun and have it ready to rock.Comment

Couldn't agree more in regards to the Scorp. I have the same optic mounted on an American Defense low QR mount and couldn't be happier. Gives it a lower 1/3 co-witness.Comment

The only problem I have with my Holosun is it won't wake up unless I smack it with my palm."Show me a young conservative and I'll show you a man without a heart. Show me an old liberal and I'll show you a man without a brain." - Sir Winston Churchill

I guess that could be a pro or a con depending on how you look at it.
Driving in a car while stored I could see a high sensitivity shortening battery life, but I can understand the irritation.
Smacking it with ur palm or a light shock to the rifle still being faster than having to fiddle with knobs or buttons, especially if you need to deploy quickly.
Can you at least turn it on, and force it to stay on?ExtremeXComment

That's why I never returned it. I figured it saves me battery power from subtle jostling. I also don't mind smacking it. Like you said, it's faster and easier than finding buttons or knobs.I guess that could be a pro or a con depending on how you look at it.

Once it's on it stays on like it's supposed to. So overall it actually might be a feature rather than a drawback the more I think about it."Show me a young conservative and I'll show you a man without a heart. Show me an old liberal and I'll show you a man without a brain." - Sir Winston Churchill
