    Scope and Heat Question

I wanted to get see what everyone's opinion is.

I recently caught hell from a buddy because I told someone I didn't want to leave my gun in my car for 8+ hours because it was going to be 95 that day and I was concerned about the scope.

He states that he has left his scope in his trunk for a week in the Sacramento summer.

The scope manual clearly states "When possible, avoid storing your scope in direct sunlight or any very hot location for long periods of time." He things "long" means in a shed for months it took it as leaving it in a hot car.

We are talking about 2K+ Tactical scopes here if it makes any difference.

I guess the question is, does leaving a scope in a hot car for either a week or a day impact the scope? Seals or glass?

Maybe my concerns are much like dropping an AR on the carpet. But my thought process is, if I can avoid abusing it, I will as I know the optic will take abuse at some point.

I cannot think that doing so(especially often) will be a good thing for any scope. A cheaper one will probably suffer more and faster.
I do not leave my scopes in a hot place anymore than I have to.
    Over-protective---maybe but cannot hurt.
I also do not leave firearms in any of my cars/truck/travel trailer for long periods of time especially if I am not in it or near. Just asking to loose them or what happens if the car is stolen?
A 30cal will reach out and touch them. A 50cal will kick their butt.

Can't possibly be good for a scope. Even with the internal purge of nitrogen, you can still get atomized grease and oil on your lenses if the internal temp gets warm enough. Once that happens you're pretty much screwed and the scope will have to be sent in for warranty repair.

No idea... but look at what EO Tech went through and is going through. Should be different with strata lines I stead of a led light..

I would call up or email the manufacturer and ask. I might just out of curiosity

My wife thinks I only have 3 guns

I wouldn't think twice about doing it for a day.

Schmidt & Bender recommends storage temperatures between -55 to 70 degrees Celsius (-67 to 158 degrees Fahrenheit) on most of their scopes.

I shoot and camp in the deserts all the time... leave my gear in a hot car all the time. Have it baking in direct sunlight in summer heat all the time...

Some of my hottest trips we were talking about over 115F+ in the car... sitting in Vegas heat. That place gets HOT.

Been doing it for 7-8 year so... never once had a problem, at least nothing that was obvious. Multiple scopes from multiples brands too.

Everything appears to track where its supposed to be, everything returns back to zero, and I haven't had any optical issues either.

I thought the point of buying quality gear was not to have to worry about crap like this.
