    Eotech Reticle Glitch

    Hello all,

I have a 553A65 and when ever I turn the brightness down to the two lowest settings the 1MOA dot glitches to a swoosh mark. I've already sent the sight back to Eotech to be repaired only to get it back with no change to the reticle, while they said they fixed it.
This is not the first time I've seen this either. I had a 557AR223 and returned it due to the same issue. Has anyone else experienced this glitch?

I hope it is a limited edition.

Doubt it's the sight, more likely it's your eyes.

Ever looked through one that didn't look like that?

I've only looked through the two I've had.
I am near sighted so I wear glasses to see the reticle clearly.
Even then, the dot on the two lowest brightness settings is still slashed.

I have heard of one other person having the same problem with the 557AR223.

This picture is exactly was I see just without the BDC reticle.

See if you can take a photograph of the reticle.

The best way to do this is to focus at a distance (1/2 down on the button) then take the pic through the EOTech. Adjust the reticle brightness, as needed.

This should determine whether it's the reticle or your eyes.

Any astigmatism or eye issues can cause the dot to appear misshapen.

I tried taking a picture with my "point and shoot" camera but it could'nt get the clarity needed to see the reticle. I can try it again with my slr tommorow.

If it were my eyes, would'nt I see a swoosh dot on all brightness settings?
This is what leads me to beleive its the sight; because the 65moa ring remains crisp on all settings

                Haven't seen anything like that.

Have a 557 and a 517 and neither of them swoosh on any setting (that I've noticed)

Both the 553 I have now and the 557 I had were from brownells. Maybe they got a bad batch...?

There's a long thread on this over at arfcom - it's mostly visible on the NV settings, so many users never see it. They went round and round on fixing it - the first fix was just an intensity adjustment, and some users still had the problem after Eotech sent it back to them.

I think they may have identified the real problem, but I didn't track the thread that closely.

Best bet is to call Eotech and send it in again, but you might want to read up on the thread over at the arfcom optics forum.
