Aimpoint PRO is this normal or defective?

I've been using a Eotech 512 with no problems, but I hear so many great things about Aimpoint so decided to give the entry level PRO a try for my home defense AR.

I ordered from Opticsplanet and they were prompt. I just received it and after opening the package before I even put a battery in, looking through the glass, I see a red line accompanied by a red cloud covering almost half the bottom left glass even when looking dead center. I thought I'd give it a try with the battery installed, but same thing. I called OP and spoke with Gary who helped me setup a return.

I was just wondering is this normal for the PRO? I'm guessing it's the LED emitter that's reflecting, but I have a PA red dot that has nowhere near that bad. I wanted a Trijicon MRO but shied away from that due to some reviews of glare.

Not normal. Someone else here had the same problem and also sent theirs back.

Not normal at all. I have one and have used another on my partners rifle. Never seen anything like that from either one.

and before receiving the defective Aimpoint, I was using the Eotech for my home defense rifle. I read so many hate for Eotech on the forums, especially after the fiasco last year. I know a good portion was Internet operators possibly, but this optic would be on my home defense rifle and I have two little kids at home I'd like to protect so reliability is the most important. Should I give another PRO a chance and exchange or should I just stick with the Eotech? I don't think the thermal drift issues would effect me much inside the home temps and probably under 15 yard engagements. Thanks for your thoughts and input.

Even if you aren't swimming with your gun, their is a chance the optic may be compromised in a humid environment. Personally, I would say Aimpoint. Not because I own many Aimpoints, but I've had 5 separate Eotechs with delamination issues, one of which ate batteries worse than a thermal optic. I dumped mine before the "exposure" fiasco. To each their own, YMMV

ETA: if it helps in making a choice, Google "Aimpoint pro house fire" and watch the Daniel Defense torture test with Larry vickers where the rifle he tortures wears a Aimpoint T1 micro
I saw that house fire PRO red still functioned and mainted zero lol.

My Eotech is manufactur date of 2016, I thought all the problems were fixed besides the thermal drift?

Time will tell. I don't mean to sound negative, but sometimes these problems, like the delamination issue, take a while to manifest themselves.

Personally, I do hope they've resolved the problems as I did like their sights (when they were working).

But for now, given the fact that my last 3 Eotechs have had the delamination issue, I'm going to wait things out before picking up another one.

Having talked to people confused what the issue is and read other threads where it's not clear, I made a video:

That way someone researching this in the future can find it, though I'm pretty sure it'll be rare, I just got unlucky with the Aimpoint.

Pic without it turned on please, that glare is not the LED emitter, it may be an objective lens problem. I would contact either OpticsPlanet or the manufacturer. I'm sure it's covered under warranty.

Watched your vid. I'd return it. You got a bad PRO. I'd stick With your EO and spend the PRO money to take your kids to a ball game, LegoLand, D-Land, etc. The reality is: use what you are the most comfortable with, In a high stress situation, It's yourself that will fail before your equipment. But the new CompM4 is a much better red dot. It uses a common AA battery and 80K hour battery life. Nothing wrong with your 512, I'm assuming that you don't take it to extreme environments and if your on target at the range you should be on target at home.

My Trijicon MRO has had no glare issues and the only gripe I have is that there are no covers available for the lens'

Glad they had a recall. Got to send all three of them back for MSRP.
