Beginning Scope for RPR

Trying to decide on a scope for my Ruger Precision rifle. I understand but once cry once but as I am trying something new here I'd rather not break the bank on a scope till I determine whether I like long range shooting or not. If I enjoy it then I'll get a Nightforce or equivalent.
So... .308 RPR paper or steel gong out to 600 or so
$600-$700

Used one of these to 800 yards on my old .308. If you don't like it, you can recoup your money.

For $600-700 I would probably save a couple hundred more and go to a Vortex PST or Bushnell Elite (got a 6x24 ffp from Optics for under $800)
or buy a good budget scope like Primary Arms or Athlon for $300-400 and upgrade later. Currently running a 4x14 PA on my RPR for lack of funds and it works great.

At that price point, I would either go cheap with SWFA or save the money for NF 4-14x50 F1.

I've looked thru the XTRII. The glass is good but not impressive (but I'm also used to NF glass). The mechanics feels cheap: the clicks are tight instead of the solid "clunk" feel on an NF. 10mil per rev and reticle is real nice though.

If you save for the NF, you'll be so much happier. It really does take you to the next level of scope and accuracy.

I vouch for Vortex Viper scopes. I have one on my Remington 700 .308.

I know they are 2nd Focal Plane but for $330 you get a decent scope with a good warranty until you decide whether to upgrade or not.

I think the Burris XTR II an excellent scope along with the Bushnell Elite 6500. I've never been impressed with the glass, eye box or eye relief on Vortex Vipers.

Have you checked out nikon monarch 30mm scopes? I have one on my r700 and it's crystal clear.
