I picked up a Marlin 1895Guide Gun in .45-70 and it came with a rail mounted in front of the receiver, as well as a rear ghost ring sight. (Yes, it is a Marlin, not a Remlin.) Can I put a suitable handgun scope on the rail or are there specific scopes for "scout rifle" use? It obviously has to be a long eye relief scope but in reviewing several catalogs and websites like Natchez, Midsouth, MIdway, etc I did not find scopes labeled specifically for mounting on the barrel forward of the receiver ala Scout Rifles. Could I use a handgun scope meant for a magnum revolver?

Leupold makes some scout scopes, fixed and variable mag.
I use the 1.5-4X on both a Ruger Scout and Mini-14 with an added rail.

The Bushnell 2x6x32 handgun scope has been a good forward mounted rifle scope for me.
I've even had one on a handgun.
Keep in mind , mine are older and often things seem to get cheaper as time goes by to keep the same price point ......... unknown if this applies here.
Or maybe they don't even make it any longer???Last edited by WMG; 02-28-2017, 4:14 PM.If you start thinking like a Free Man
