Spotting scope bench mount

Was at the range last week and saw a jerry rigged C-clamp holding a spotting scope on a bench. I should've taken a closer look at it but i didn't realize till now how convenient that mustve been for him to have his scope stabilized and directly to his left shoulder to peak into the lens.

saw this on ebay but i dont think its right for the job because it wouldnt be able to move up and down and have to be at a fixed level. Any ideas?

I, unfortunately, can't afford to be a pro, so I use the the basic table top tripod-not great, but works ok.

I see one's at the range like what you've seen. Going to make in the next month or two.

But the binoculars I've been using have been satisfactory for me as well.

A clamp-on sure sounds like a great idea. The next best thing might just be to get one of these for $35, Maybe throw a couple of standbags around it, on the feet, etc. A tripod is little more versatile. FWIW, a ball head with QDisconnect like what this tripod comes with is easier to use and more solid than the cheesy, plasticy "camera" heads that come with cheap tripods.

I will admit, I've never tried one of these, i.e. this particular model. So i don't know how well it'd work with spotting scopes. But there are other nice, mini-tripods to look into.

I picked up a Sinclair bench scope mount a few years ago and never looked back.

That does look nice. Less money than the other one mentioned above, but still a price that forces you to think about it.

I have to admit, this would kick the cr@p out of any little tripod. It takes up no space at all on the bench, and you'd be hard pressed to knock it down accidentally.

Instead of a bench clamp stand, just get a traditional high power "across the course" scope stand that way you can run the stand high for standing or sitting at bench, or midway for sitting, or low for prone.

You can run the scope stand really close to your body since the base is a fairly flat, wide foot print and the stand is simply a center column 1" (ideally) bar. In pretty much all positions, I can get the scope really close to me.

I wonder if one of those window mounts would attach to one of these quick clamps or if it would be sturdy enough.
