Can you ID this retro laser sight?

I recently came across an old school laser sight. It's made for a rifle, takes eight AA batteries, and has a tape switch but I don't know much more about it. It's not working right now but I'm trying to fix it.

That looks cool. It is possible that the tube has burnt out. If it doesn't have enough helium anymore, it will not function.

A 12V DC HeNe red laser sight? Wow, haven't seen one of these in 15 years. I can't recall the manufacturer or brand. It was, as I remember, sold in sporting goods stores as part of a rifle scope/laser bundle. I read somewhere back then that the sights just ate batteries like M&Ms and I believe it. Even at just 5 milliwatts a helium/neon (He/NE) tube laser would pull serious current. Battery life about 30 minutes or less. Thank goodness for lithium batteries and solid state laser diodes, especially the green ones.

Not quite right, but this is the first thing that came to mind:

I believe that is made by a company called Laser Products, now known as Surefire. I have that exact laser in front of me and had to dig it out of the junk box. I've had it since the 80's but no longer have any documentation, and my memory isn't as clear as I'd like, but that's my recollection. I could be wrong though. Mine doesn't work either....failed sometime around the early 90's.

If it is made by surefire, id be curious what they would say if you sent it in, lifetime warranty and all

Its ether the hv power supply, or the tube. Since HeNe tubes have a shelf life, which is shorter when it's not used, I bet that's your problem. You MAY be able to find a replacement, but you'd need to get to the manufacturer's label on the tube to find out it's specs.

                  Good luck
