    Riflescope magnification vs distance question.

What what would be desired riflescope magnification to be able to reliably aim AND see hits on the target at

    A) 50 yards
    B) 100 yards
    C) 200 yards?

Let's assume daylight and overal favorable conditions 5.55/223.

I have bought some noname inexpensive 3-9x 40mm riflescope from amazon that lets me do (A) at 50 yards (9x) , but for 100 yards I could aim fithout seing hits (9x). Since it's noname, I couldn't be sure it's appropriately marked.

It's probably marked correctly but the glass quality may not be that great. Unfortunately, this is subjective and lower powered high end optics will perform better that high magnification low end options. Seeing a .22 caliber hole at 200 yards can be difficult. Try some shoot-n-see targets and see if that helps.

22 hits at 100 can be seen by a lot of scopes, reading the 8 font writing at 100 yards takes clear glass

The Nikon monarch 6x -24x allows one to read hit ls at 200

      It is big....

It is a combination of the optic quality, having enough light and magnification to see .22 hits at 200

How about a good spotting scope? It's only money.

Spotting scope with tripod - two more items to carry to the range... plus, it was so convenient to the the hit instantly.

The scope I have would be dedicated to 10/22 for 50 to 100 yrds, and I'm thinking of another scope for m&p sport 2 for 100 yards plus and this time would like to get one from reputable brand, but what about parameters?

Holiday sales, so might be a good time to get something with good value.

Many beginners to scopes focus too much (hah!) on magnification & not enough on glass quality. A good 9x is much clearer than a mediocre 14x.

Also, buy those shoot-n-see targets that change color when you hit. Yes they're more expensive than regular paper targets but definitely worth the extra 20c per sheet.

I've been using these 3-9x32mm AO scopes on my .223 CZ 527M Carbine and CZ 455 Trainer for quite a while. They've been reliable and provided good performance out to 100 yds which is the most distant target I've shot up to now. (http://www.presmainc.com/products/details/100036)

I've also been using a fixed parallax CenterPoint 2-7x32mm (http://www.crosman.com/optics/scopes...lass-2-7x32-mm) and its 3-9x32mm cousin for almost five years on my .223 Ruger Mini 14 which is notorious for killing optics. As above, the furthest distance has been 100 yds.

In all cases, these scopes let me see hits at 100 yds using maximum magnification as long as I'm using splatter type (shoot and see) targets. YMMV

6x24x50 you will see holes on holes.

With my Celestron 60mm-zoom 45 spotting scope i can hunt more than 200 yards distance and also it's highly magnification power allow me to see more that 400 yard around the spot. Which ensure secure hunting from some dangerous animals.

This is the best Optics in my life. But it's really costly to purchase. it's not a matter as it can give a real Hunting performance.

In my experience, the exact type of target can make all the difference

Binoculars would be one thing to take to the range, instead of a spotter and a tripod...Monocular is smaller and lighter than binos, I keep one in the range bag actually

The Bushnell Legend Ultra Spotting scope (12-36x or 15-45x) comes with a mini tripod and a case...honestly most of the time when I use it, I just hold it by hand. That was easier than messing with a tripod when I was using it on a prairie dog shoot.

My scope is on 25x 99% of the time regardless of distance (out to 1,000 yards).

This, I have a better hit probability with an ACOG than most any 3-9 type scopes on an AR, because of balance.

If you only shoot off a bench, that might change things. But I am an advocate for optics that don't change the center of gravity dramatically on a rifle. That's no fun

Optical performance and glass quality > Magnification

OP, if you want to be able to shoot and see with greater resolution, you need to seek scopes that have a reputation for good optical performance...

You would be surprised how well you can see with minimal magnification when you have good lenses.
