Holosun vs Hi-Lux

Just was looking at Holosun dot scopes and 50K hour battery life is impressive for less than half the price of an Aimpoint PRO.
What's the downside if any?

I think it looks like a pretty good middle ground when you compare it to the spectrum of budget optics...

I have the PA version of the holosun red dot, the MD-ADS.
I got it when they first released, so 2 or 3 years ago? Something like that.
Still on the original battery, has never been turned off and is still running.
I've used it in several rifles all in 7.62x39 or 5.56, AK and AR, no problems. Zeros easily and holds the zero reliably. Rain, sun, heat, and darkness never a malfunction. Has a couple thousand rounds through it at this point. I still prefer my aimpoint PRO, but mostly because I prefer full size red dots.
I don't think you can go wrong with it for the price. I'm glad I got mine.
Edit: Thd biggest concern to me when first purchased was brightness, as older cheap red dots were very very dim. Not this one. It's damn near as bright as my aimpoints. Clarity is good but you do get some reflection at times.

Most of the issues that guy had was due to his mount coming loose.

After several years of dealing with optics, I use a tiny bit of blue Loctite on all optics mount threads, including iron sights that are held on with screws. I have had too many come loose before.....now they don't anymore.

That is the big grain of salt I am taking with that review. I appreciate you sharing it though.

I have Holosun's basic model, haven't used it yet so......we will see how it holds up.

I have 4 holosun red dots. 3 are the 403c and 1 is the 503. They are great red dots. No complaints here. They are on 5.56, 300 blackout, and my mpx pistol.

My good friend has one on his AR. He likes it. He especially likes the price. He has owned it for awhile now. Caveat... He doesn't shoot at anything that shoots back, rolls around in the mud with it, or jump out of airplanes with it. From the bench at the rifle range it works great for him and holds its zero. YMMV.

Late to the party, but I just received my Holosun 503 and I must say that I am completely blown away. The 503 has either a circle dot or just a dot and both are very crisp and clear. I have a T1 on one of my other rifles and honestly there is no difference as far as the dot and glass go. This will go on a CZ Scorpion Evo 3 mounted on an American Defense low QD mount just to get the sight above the factory mounted sights. Very impressed.

I have several of them, 515c and 403c. IMO, the solar panel is not necessary and auto brightness is not great as it seems. But the optical quality and the crispness of the dot is superb.

Holosun's CS is great as well. One of the QD mount on my 515c's would not lock. So I called Holosun. They sent me an replacement with a pre-paid label within days. Nice.

I have the auto brightness set to manual. I agree.

I have a romeo4, basically a rebadged holosun, backed by sig sauer. It's a good optic, I liked it better then the eotech 552 and aimpoint T1 I compared it to at the LGS
