EO Tech 512 vs 518

I have a great opportunity to purchase an EO Tech at an amazing deal from a distributor who came into my work on his lunch break. I'm thinking either the 512 or 518 and I wanted to see what you gurus thought. I'm learning towards the 518 because it runs on AA batteries and will work with an EO Tech Magnifier if I ever get one. Is the 518 worth the extra $60 or should I just get the 512 and call it a day?

I have two 512's that I run with a vortex magnifier. I would recommend the 512.

To my understanding ...

They are basically the same unit with the controls moved to the side on the 518 so as to easily access them when a magnifier is mounted behind it. If you plan on using a magnifier then go 518, otherwise the 512 is the same unit with the rear facing controls, save yourself $40-50 bucks. I went with a 512 to start and ended up switching to a XPS because I did add a magnifier.

ALSO.. it depends on what kind of Co-Withness you like better.. 512 will give you a Absolute C/W while the 518 gives you a Lower 1/3 C/W, of course when you're looking thru your rear irons into the optic that is.. I personally like the Lower 1/3

Good stuff so far guys, thanks a bunch. I'm not sure yet if I wanna put b.u.i.s. after I get the eo tech or just say screw it and get a magnifier. I've been an iron sight guy ever since I started shooting but wth I figure an optic should help me get the most out of my AR. I wanna start shooting rifles more at 200 yards and can still practice with irons on the commie guns.

I am curious....what is a "good deal" on a 512? I have two of them, bought nearly-new from individuals here on Calguns. One was $350 and the other $300.

Yeah guy said he is selling it to me at dealer cost, nice dude. I asked a couple buddies if they wanna get in on it well see, I'd post here on it but I don't have the time or want to put in the effort to deal with coordinating a group buy. I was shocked when he told me lol.
