Optic recommendations for Larue PredatOBR 20"?

I'm looking for recommendations for an optic for my new rifle. Something affordable for now before I get into a pricier optic.

Well... what type of shooting do you want to do? That generally determines the application and what type of optic you should buy.

What type of budget are you working with?

This will be for a dedicated ong range setup. I want to ideally spend < $1200.

In your mind what is long range?

Personally a smaller, lighter, and better balanced 2.5-10 Vortex PST or Burris XTR II would bit the bill nicely.

But if you want more magnification and dont might the weight I like scopes in that 5-20x50 range and size. SWFA SS HD, Vortex Razor, Bushnell G2DMR I like... the Vortex PST 6-24 is nice too but I always run out of elevation without a 20 MOA base...

I also run a SWFA SS HD 1-6x scope on mine... its a little under magnified for the targets I shoot sometimes, but I can make it work because its setup as a target scope and tracks as well as its big brother.

I dont need more than 10x to shoot the effective range/distance of a 223/556 cartridge, so ive started to like smaller more balanced scopes. But if this is a dedicated bench gun or you enjoy shooting groups at 100-300 yards then a good quality 5-20x50 might be what you want. Be warned scopes that large on top of AR platforms IMO really start to become a bit too big for its britches.

Leupold Mark 4 is a great choice within that budget

          Either 3.5-10x40 or 6.5-20x50

          Trijicon Accupoint 2.5-12.5x42

I like the Sig scopes as well...

          Tango 6 3-18x

You should be able to find some good deals during Thanksgiving/Black friday sales.

Mark 4 M1 3.5-10X works great for me shooting NRA Midrange at 600yds. Got it used for half what your budget is. You can always sell it later for basically what you paid.

Sure, why not...most people "long distance" means it was past 100 yds.

Guess I shouldn't be surprised about such responses in ca.

If you can't understand why not, then nothing I say will matter.
