    Scope Options

HELP!!!! I tried the search button and read everything I could find but am still stumped.

So here is where I'm at.... Just purchased a Falkor Petra 300 WinMag and am trying to determine which optic is right for me.

I am looking for something to be able to shoot 1000-1500yds clearly. Meaning, I don't want to be underpowered (magnification) nor have horrible parallax and glass.

I was thinking Nightforce as I've read dozens of solid reviews about them etc but generally don't know enough about them to see what I should be getting.

Not tied to Nightforce but wanted opinions and as much knowledge as possible

    Thanks in advance.

What's your price range, OP? SFP or FFP? Is weight a factor? Need more details.

Price Range isn't a factor. Willing to pay for quality but wouldn't mind staying in the realm of under 3k. Weight isn't a huge factor as I won't be moving too much with the rifle.

There are some good options under the 3k range. The Gen2 Razor and the NightForce ATACR F1 are two I have personal experience with. Both are First Focal plane (FFP) which has an advantage in that he reticle changes in size in relation to the image of your target as magnification increases and decreases. This makes it easier and faster to range targets with pretty good results up to a certain distance. In second focal plane reticle stays the same size and only the image of your target changes size when increasing and decreasing magnification. An advantage to this is you don't have a large reticle obscuring your target size at long distances, though there are some finer FFP reticles available. SFP tends to be less expensive than FFP. Everyone will have their own preferences. I like my FFP scopes, but the SFP NF NXS I had didn't bother me much. The Gen2 razor has been a huge success. It's loaded with features (zero stop, locking turrets, second rev indicator, awesome glass, spot on tracking, illuminated reticle, etc) at a very reasonable price. I got mine new for around $2200-2300 over a year ago. It is a heavy and robust scope, but will withstand the recoil of the 300WinMag without issue. Same goes for the NF ATACR. It has many of the same great features (minus the second rev indicator and locking turrets of the Razor), weighs a little less, and costs a little more, but also a great scope to consider. Both are limited in reticle options in my opinion, but they work well. Kahles and US Optics are two other options you may want to look into, but both are closer to 3k. Best bang for the buck is going to be the Razor, in my opinion.

I'd go Schmidt 5-25x56 PMII with p4fine reticle for about $3400 as it'll give you plenty of elevation range for your stated distance. Nightforce ATACR F1 is a great pick if you are leaning towards Nightforce already. If budget isn't an issue and you want the best picture beyond 1,000 yards with higher usable magnifications, then the Hensoldt 3.5 - 26 is the best you will find.
