    Quality Rings?

I will be mounting a Primary Arms 4-14X44MM scope on my PTR91. I have not decided on the low mount or the claw mount. There my be a problem with the scope interfering with the charging handle on the low mount. In any case, what is a good quality scope ring? I have seen prices at $10 a pair to over $100 a pair. What's the difference in quality?

I like Seekins Precision... that's generally my #1 pick for rings. Awesome build quality, serial # matched pairs, 1 piece machined recoil lug, chamfered edges, big hardware screws, flush non-protruding clean design...

TPS Products rings are my 2nd more budget choice. I use them a lot too, just a great balance between price and quality.

Ive used other brands in the past, like Warne, Leupold, Burris, and some others but I just stick to Seekins and TPS now.

You also have some 1 piece options too, but most are AR height and I dont know if that's what you need for a PTR91. If so, Bobro and Larue are my top picks.

Difference in quality becomes apparent after working with various rings brands. Fit, finish, machining quality, smoothness of hardware when tightening, how it feels against the scope tube...

Many people like Seekins. All of my rings/mounts are Badger or SPUHR. The cost comes into materials and how they are made. High-end rings (like Badger) are made in serialized pairs so they are identical and do not require lapping. SPUHR is more of a one-piece mount and they do not require lapping either. With that said, many may not care about lapping and just use whatever and as long as the scope is secure they call it good.

      Edit: Damn I type slow.....

I've owned those before... probably some of the most irritating rings I have ever owned.

The split clamp design is garbage...

You cant remove the scope from the rifle without loosing zero. You loose scope cant / level, and the recoil lug is loose between the two clamped pieces.

Scope R&R becomes a pain. Even a good set of fixed rings can "QD" just as well, if not more accurately than QD rings with a torque wrench.

I can remove / remount horizontal split rings all day without loss of zero. Rings like Seekins with a fixed machined recoil lug are amazing for this task.

Thanks for the info guys. Seekins sounds like the way to go. Can even get a little cut on price on Ebay with free shipping. Just have to figure out what height rings for the low mount.

Seekins or Warne gets my vote.

The PTR91 is like the HK91 or G3. I suggest the original claw type mount. It was made/designed for that gun. I have an original mount and it works good for what it is - although I no longer have a gun to put it on.

I second that, it works well for me on a HK PSG1 clone. A little pricey these days but well worth it.

I use Warne rings most of the time. Vertically split rings like Warne are more of a pain to install but I've never seen a scope slip in them, I have seen rings slip in several different horizontal ring makes. Different strokes for different folks. If you buy Warne QD's then you can remove the scope and reattach it without losing zero.

You got a scope that's the equivalent of $10 rings. I think it would be a bit silly to replicate the cost of the scope on premium mounting gear, unless you are planning on upgrading the scope later.

I've bought enough Warne products in the past to know what I dont like... including the QD rings... I never said they didn't work or slip, I just said they are very irritating to work with.

For $20 more you can just buy TPS and you dont have to deal with any of those cons, plus you get better rings.

I get that you don't like them but that doesn't make them garbage.
