Legitimate Thermal Drift Concerns with EOTech 512?

We know they were sued by the federal government for fraud relating the cover-up of the thermal drift defect. Supposedly, it causes the aiming point to shift in high or low temperatures. Not sure if it's a valid concern in SoCal temperatures.

Anyone have any firsthand experience with this ?

Many members here turned theirs in and got a refund when that happened. I kept my 2 eotech 512's and still haven't had an issue. If I remember the thermal drift issue is something no casual shooter would see.

I've only had hands-on experience with 1 unit. I thought the reticle was unusually fuzzy. What are your thoughts ?

How hot does your trunk get in the summer? Or laying in the sun?

Fuzzy at all levels of brightness? I run mine lower to get a crisper dot. I had one unit that would have the reticle disappear in a portion of the window. Sent it in for warranty and had it back in like 2 weeks, no charge. Otherwise my experience has been great. I would run it and if something comes up then address it then.

When looking at a regular red dot like an aimpoint, do you see a dot, or some other shape? If you look at an eotech or red dot through a camera, does the image in the viewfinder(or your phone, whatever) look different than what you see with your naked eye?

If so... *drumroll* You've got an astigmatism!

But seriously, unless it's just reticle bloom due to being set way too bright, eotechs and RDS will make it obvious even if you've never noticed before that it's time to see an optometrist. An eotech will simply look fuzzy because it's an image made of small dots(pixels) as opposed to one larger dot that ends up looking like a star/football/whatever.

Odds are your prescription isn't quite perfect(I don't know if they even can be for that), and I see the same thing. It's never been perfect with glasses, but it's definitely usable(I have no trouble using an eotech or RDS without my glasses either, but some people report seeing a crazy unusable mess without theirs). Combine that with reticle bloom due to the brightness(it's worse when you have it cranked up in the dark) and that would explain it.

I have two 512s and have had no issues.
Couldn't bring myself to send them in for a refund. You just can't beat that 1 MOA dot.......
