What is a reasonably priced scope for a PTR 91 GI?

Well, are you sure you want to scope it?

A lot of people I have talked to were happier with a red dot...

Not a ton of mounting room regarding eye relief with the iron sights was the major complaint if i recall correctly...

Gotta define "reasonable" around here...less than $500? less than $1000?

Primary Arms 1-8x SFP is a great price and would be pretty versatile on a PTR (assuming eye relief is adequate)

OK, I ordered a Primary Arms 4X14 44MM ACSS scope from Optic Planet. they had a deal running and marked the scope down from $279 to $240. Now the only question is what mount/rings to mount it to the low mount on my PTR 91?

Cantilever 1-piece AR style mounts will raise the scope high enough for the rear to clear the sight drum. But most likely the iron sights won't be usable because the objective bell will block the view of the front sights.

The real constraint is that the charging handle limits the length of the scope to about 12 inches. Longer scopes can be mounted, but you'll need to be careful when locking the bolt back because the handle can rub against the scope. And obviously the "HK slap" is no longer possible with long scopes.

Because of the clearance problem I switched from a Vortex 4-12x & instead got a Primary Arms 1-8x, which works better for me. The shorter length is much better, 8x magnification is plenty for the rifle, and the relatively small objective lens means I can actually still use the iron sights too.

I intend to mount the scope on a claw mount that will have it high enough to use the iron sights. Not sure how that will effect the charging handle access. The 4-14X scope is 2 1/2 inches longer (13 1/2") than your 1-8X scope. Maybe having it up a little higher will be OK not withstanding the parallax thing.

I shoot mine with the hk open sights. Good to 200 yards. I would not put more than a 4x on a battle rifle. Mine only holds minute of man. Maybe yours is more accurate.

I tried to run a primary arms 1-6 on my ptr. Using a PEPR mount and a cheek riser it was doable, the charging handle was close but there was enough room and eye relief was adequate. I tried to bring the scope down with medium height rings but it than it became unusable due to lack of eye relief without the PEPR's forward bias and it was too high to adequetely get behind with the normal stock and too low to see with the cheek riser.

I ended up mounting a Primary Arms 5x prism scope using their base. Good magnification, much more room for the charging handle, and allows you to get into the rifle as designed with your face in the nook. Since the prism's eye relief is so short it's just about even with how you would line up behind the irons.

OK, so I went with the Primary Arms 4-14 scope. I files the claw mount to a nice fit and mounted the scope this past weekend. Now I can use the iron sights or just mount the scope when I want. Just hope that thing about not losing zero with the mount is true.

My G3 (HK91) scope mount has a thru-hole that allows me to use the iron sights even with the scope attacked.

How did the claw mount work out? I tried that route and could never get it to hold zero and went to a low rail that allows the irons to still be used. I use an American Defense QD mount and 1-6x scope and it works great.
