    Cheap/decent scope for 10/22?

Just picked up a new Ruger 10/22 as a fun little plinker and trainer for my young children. I've always been an avid shooter of handguns and shotguns; just recently have entered into rifles for fun.

I know *nothing* about optics, but want to pick up an inexpensive-but-decent scope to put on the 10/22; the gun itself was only $269...so I'm thinking something under $100 at most. Any suggestions?

Cheap but works well would be a Simmons---About $50
I have then on 5 rifles in 22RF. Been very happy.
Run away from BSA/Barska and such.
A 30cal will reach out and touch them. A 50cal will kick their butt.

Redfield is better but I do not think they make a 22RF scope and for less than $100.

Buy a scope designed for a 22RF as the parallax is set for a 22RF range that will be used most often

Our two 10-22s exclusively wore Simmons 3-9x32 .22 mag scopes. They were nice, until the reticle broke in one. That scope was replaced with a UTG bug buster, and we're looking at a 2-7 AO from Hawke for the other. Both of those scopes have etched mil-dot reticles, and both are airgun rated. Hawke comes with a lifetime warranty.

Thanks for the info. Based on the comments on this thread, we've gone ahead and gotten that exact Simmons you mentioned; we'll try 'er out. About $50 from Amazon. If it breaks, as yours did eventually, we'll go to plan B. Thanks again!

I hope ours was a fluke because they're very nice for the price. The broken one will go in for warranty work, and they will probably end up on different rifles. But the 10-22s are used a lot, and we need reliable equipment.

Another vote for Simmons .22 Magnum, so called because it is supposed to be tough, not because it is made for magnums. I have two of them and think they offer a whole lot for $50.

Try a red dot. The rail can be bought on Amazon for 10-15 bucks and they may even carry a red dot. The Bushnell trs-25 is about 70 bucks and thats all that you need for plinking and fun.

Per your budget, I would look at

                        Bushnell Banner 1-4x

                        or

                        Bushnell Banner 3-9x

nikon 4x or 2-7. something along those line.
redfield, burris, vortex (diamond back or better)
                          buy once, cry once.
All of them do something better than the 30-06, but none of them do everything as well.

Its a little more than $100, but still a solid option worth mentioning...

Good glass, very light, good mag range for a .22LR, 1" tube, not bulky, reliable quality mid priced option for that rifle... literally perfect on top of a 10/22.

The BSA Sweet 22 actually is a good scope in the $120 range. Highly regarded by the members on RimfireCentral.com
