    Elcan SpecterDR 1-4

I got my first SpecterDR about a year and a half ago for my Block 2 M4gery and love it. It is a 14.5" BCM hammer forged barrel upper w/ probably close to 3500 rounds through it. I can shoot 1.5" groups at 100 yards all day long, the BDC is perfect for my 500 yard range out where I go shooting and I've never had any complaints.

I recently purchased a second one for another rifle and can't seem to tighten my groups up to anything smaller than 3" or so at 100 yards indoors on a somewhat poorly lit range. This upper is a 14.5" LMT w/ 800 rounds through it and I'm shooting it with the same 62 grain ammo as I used to zero my other Elcan. I'm thinking of taking it outdoors where it's brighter and I can shoot prone off a bag before becoming concerned, but was curious as to what is acceptable. The zero isn't wandering, I just can't seem to tighten it. I'd blame barrel, or my eyesight before the optic.

What is considered to be an acceptable grouping for a SpecterDR 1-4? I know ACOGs and Elcans will never win accuracy awards over a NF, or S&B.

Not sure if it helps, but I remember seeing a YouTube review a while back where a guys DR was super lose on his mount. Caused him all kinds of issues. Maybe check that first?

Are you shooting these on the same lower (same FCG)?

Before blaming the optic, have you verified how well the rifle shoots without it? 3" groups with regular 62gr is well within spec for that type of setup for the information you're providing.

Is this the basic lmt upper or an MRP upper?

          +1

Heck, if I got 3" groups with my upper and M855 I would actually be happy...

Its closer to 4-5" in my testing using a TA31F, but a simple ammo swap to some basic 55gr settled the same upper down to 1.5-2" groups.

OP, you might want to invest in a inexpensive optic like a SWFA 12x or 16x fixed power just for ammo testing... I have one that I use temporary and move around from rifle to rifle that use RDS or low power variables for test and load dev...

Sorry. Wasn't really blaming the optic... I'd be more inclined to blame the barrel if anything. Just wasn't sure if it was an acceptable grouping, or not. Guess it really boils down to the upper. Not sure how else I'd get that much better of a group out of one 14.5 vs another.

Every gun will shoot differently unfortunately unless you have some type of guarantee from the manufacturer, even then you will have some variance.
Ammo makes a huge difference as one lot may vary from the next, try out different types of ammo to see what what that specific gun prefers. Not to mention variables as the shooter and weather etc...

You need to go back with different types of ammo (match included) and test it.

                Are you using M855?
