    Scope suggestions

I'm looking for a scope in the 1-4x or 1-6x range. The lighter the better and looking to spend $500-$600 max. This scope will be going on a Ar-15 (.223, 5.56) and mostly used for target shooting.

Also which brands have lifetime warranties?

    Thanks

My buddy just got the vortex strike eagle. Little heavy, but really nice.

All of them do something better than the 30-06, but none of them do everything as well.

Primary Arms has 1-4x, 1-6x, and recently release a 1-8x. Never owned one but I've never read anything bad about PA optics.
Only 3 year warranties though, I believe.

Advanced Combined Sighting System rifle scopes with integrated BDC, wind holds, and target leads. LPVO scopes from 1-6x to 1-8x. Lifetime warranty.

I really like the Leupold VXR with Green Dot

We have plenty of the Vortex Strike Eagle in stock

The Vortex Viper PST is also an excellent 1-4x packed with features

You may want to check out the Primary Arms 1-8x SFP but that is a little heavier compared to the others

The Nikon 1.5-6x is a really great scope, but a little pricey with the illumination.

I 2nd the VXR vote. I have a 2-7 X 33 on my Troy PAR and love it. They also make it in a 1.25-4.

I got mine here. They tend to run cheaper than the VXR Patrol which have the useless tacicool knobs that you will never use. The reticle choices are different too.

However, if you like the MIL dot-ish reticle and the big knobs, then go with the Patrol model.

OK.. Looking at these scopes some more I think I would want locking turrets or turret caps.

So I like the VXR and also for the sake of going as light as possible I noticed the VX-2? 8.10oz, no illumination though. Not a deal breaker.

The Strike Eagle is a good scope but not in the same class as the VX-R IMO. I too have no need for the Patrol and have a 2-7 with a Firedot 4 reticle. It is basically a German #4 reticle with illumination. The German #4 is one of the very best for low light and fast target acquisition. If illumination isn't essential to you then believe or not the non-illuminated Leupold VX-Hog is an outstanding AR scope.

Note: I just reread the original post and saw you will be mostly target shooting/plinking. The reticles I suggested are better suited for hunting. If I were getting a scope for your purpose I would forgo an IR and spend the extra money for better glass, i.e. VX-3i.
