    ACOG TA31f vs RCO?

Hello to all. I have been lurking for some time and finally decided to post a question.

I am interested in an ACOG type optic and like the chevron style. What is the main advantage (and in what situations) for the RCO model that seems heavier and longer but does include lense caps and I think 'killflash'. Would this be an advantage only in low light environments and is it worth the extra cost?

    Thanks in advance

The TA31F and the TA31RCO are very close to the same. They are both setup for a 14.5 to 16”. If you like the RCO I would recommend getting the TA31RCOM150 it comes with a kill-flash and flip caps.

Thanks Mike. So just to be clear then, the RCO does not have killflash unless it is the m150 model? Also what would be the most appropriate model for an 18'' heavy barrel - could you get away with the TA31 series or would another choice be better.

      Thanks in advance.

IF you are not going to "war".... I would recommend against KILL-FLASH.... you paid premium $$ for great optics... but you are reducing the performance by adding a piece of tacticool kill-flash in the front (light coming in is reduced, therefore, clarity is reduced)

If you want a lens cover, look into PMT's cover... altho the company PMT is no more, I still have the contact of the owner who STILL have some of his ACOG cover for sale....

Any idea if there is a flip open lens cover made for the ACOG? I don't like the scapegoat at all.

You can either get the Progressive Machine setup (mentioned above) which is super nice and priced accordingly.

Or you can pick up the ARD (TA-91 assuming you have a TA-31 model) from Trijicon along with the cap (this is the same setup as what the RCO-M150 comes with) and just cut out the honeycomb. You get the same thing for about half the price of the PMT setup.

But to answer the Op, do what Mike suggests and get the M150 setup, it's probably the best setup going right now if size and weight is a concern. And all RCO will come with the ARD as well as the carrying pouch.

Kill-flash also functions as a sunshade.

Get the TA31F and not the RCO, They are the same thing except the RCO has horizontal ranging lines that run across the middle. They are used for spotting targets in the Marines, but have no use for a civilian other than cluttering up the sight picture.

Wopuld you check and see if he has one that will fit the TA31TRD? I'd like to see it.

TA31TRD is JUST the same as any TA01 and TA31 series 4x32 ACOG.

Email Steve @ tewlman223@mac.com , ask for PMT ACOG cover for TA31

The PMT lens cover is one of the BEST accessory I got for my ACOGs (I have both covers for my TA31F and my TA11F). And then for the eyepiece, I just get regular Butler Creek.

Personally, I am VERY SAD to the fact that PMT is closing down. I think more ACOG user should experience the PMT ACOG lens cover....

If you can't get the PMT one, your next best bet would be the GG&G accucam + cover

And here is a pic leeched from ar15.com

Another pic I found on the net, when it is closed up

BEST use of this is to close it up and practice 1x BAC... and then flip it open to engage long range targets.... I tried to shoot a whole shoot-house stage with the lens closed and both my eyes open...
