I like quad rails. Its a no-bs mounting system and is fine for weight. People complain about cutting weight on their gun but cutting weight on themselves would do more for them. Personally, im selling a KMR'd upper and going back to quad rails. Ive realized i like shorter handguards in the 9-10" range as well.

It's strange to me when people talk about handguards getting hot. I've had situations where I fired of 100-200 rounds in less than 10 min and while the barrel was smoking, never felt my DD rails we're going to cause me pain.

How much are you guys shooting at once that this stuff really matters?

The cheap EBAY or amazon Quadrails have very sharp edges that get very annoying. You can put rubber ladder rails so you don't feel the sharp rail. I personally have used a ton of different quadrails and the Monstrum Tactical and Vector optic rails are good quality and pretty cheap. I have since moved over to the Mod rails and really like how they look. I got two rifles for sale over in the Long Gun For Sale forum if you want to see what a 15 inch rail looks like on a 16 inch barrel.
CALGUNS DICTIONARY "FLIER": when a shooter wants to turn a 1 inch group to a half inch group because he flinched.

Well seeing as how you have an M&P Sport I don't imagine that you are awash with money so why don't you try a 2 piece free float rail like a Midwest Industries or a Troy and easily install it yourself instead of paying more money for not only the one piece rail, but possibly extra tools for the install or a gunsmith.

With everything going on right now though, I'd say skip the rail for now and put that $200ish (you don't want a $60 quad rail btw) towards ammo or another semi auto rifle.

I don't think the 2 piece rails are a true free float, they are more like drop in rails in place of the current handguard. If OP is looking for handguards with rails then they're a great option, but if OP is looking for something that free floats the barrel then those won't do it.

A drop in 2 piece and a free float 2 piece are not the same.

I dunno but whenever i shoot our assigned M4's or when we had M16s the weapons would get hot enough that it would interfere with my marksmanship. I would always wear gloves and that usually solved the problem. Now this was maybe 300ish rounds in taking slow and "precise" shots. shooting indoor and outdoors at that.

Midwest Industries has a free float handguard that is easy to install so you do not have to remove front sight.

Shop firearms, accessories, and more at Midwest Industries, Inc. — all made with the American quality you expect and deserve.

you just need to remove the delta ring, spring and clip. it goes on the existing barrel nut.
