Per the attached, I have come into an older Win Mod 70 with the
cantilever style scope mount, and what I assume to be a decrepit
rimfire style scope with barely visible reticle - likely original to the
rifle.
As you can see, there isn't much room to spare
When I open the action - the bolt just barely clears the eyepiece. Existing eyepiece if 30.1mm
I have a little more room for expansion on the objective end - could go up to just over 33mm or a bit more if scope is moved forward.
OA length of existing scope is 10 3/4".
Is there a variable scope (say like a 1-6x) that might fit in the existing space?
Or, practically speaking - would I be better off just removing the cantilever mount entirely, filling in the screw holes, and installing a more modern set
of bases/rings?
